THE PRICE OF REWARDING TERRORISM

You do not defeat terrorism by rewarding terrorists, regardless of how many bleeding heart liberals argue otherwise. Want to know where that flawed approach leads to? Read UNIONISM DECAYED 1997-2007 - It's my first book and it explains what happens when you seeek to appease terrorists and call it peace. It's available right now for ATW readers so make sure you get your copy by emailing the editor! This is the book that dissents from the herd mentality that doing wrong can lead to being right. It doesn't and this book spells out WHY.

ATW LIVEBLOG - THE EUROPEAN ELECTION RESULTS

Tomorrow evening will see the results of the European election that took place on Thursday revealed (Apart from Northern Ireland where Monday sees the count take place). For the first time here on ATW, we will do a LIVEBLOG. DSD will be our resident host  /analyst and result reviewer/predictor - although I will be around for some of the time too. We will kick off at 9pm GMT and run it through until midnight. I've done quite a few LIVEBLOGS over on Biased BBC but this will be our first outing here on the homeland so hope you can come along for the chat! It will all  become clear tomorrow. Labour will melt down and we will be here to talk about it. Should be a laugh and you are all welcome....!

Looking forward to it David.

The interesting thing will be how many anti-federalists are elected across the EU countries.

I'll try and contribute if I can.

I made a prediction on my own blog on Thursday, although I might have underestimated the BNP and the SNP:

Conservative: 21 seats
UKIP: 15
Lib Dem: 14
Labour: 12
Green: 5
SNP: 2
Sinn Fein: 1
DUP: 1
TUV: 1

Ross

Interesting forecast, not least the NI results!

But it seems quite possible.

I'll look at the British seats later, and the Free Staters as well, but in the North I really don't see TUV getting elected. If there is a second Unionist then it is Nicky. It will be SF, DUP and either the Stoops or the New Force. I don't think Allister has enough in the tank.

I wouldn't claim to know as much about Northern Ireland politics as others here, but I'm tipping the TUV on the basis that the anti-establishment mood that has helped minor parties in Great Britain is also present there.

Jim A deserves to win and I have fingers crossed. It would SO sicken the establishment pro appeasers.

Northern Ireland poltics works very strangely. There were two elections simultanouesly on Thursday. The election in Unionism, and the election in Nationalism. There wasn't a big issue in Nationalism during this election and so both Sinn Féin and the SDLP vote will hold. I have Sinn Féin in and around 29%, the SDLP in and around 16%. The key battle is in Unionism, and it isn't the same pro-establisment/anti-establisment idea. It is simply that the DUP and Ulster Unionists (who, remember, have the Force on their side), are in favour of Power Sharing and getting on with things, while TUV don't won't to share Power (alledgedly with Sinn Féin but probably in general). That is the only real voter battle is how much DUP vote will be lost to the TUV. Most experts are putting Allister on 13%, which is a significant portion of DUP vote, but not enough to see Jimmy elected.

...your "probably" is disingenuous, Seamus. Not seeking to power share with terrorst scum is admirable, a position I have held all my political life come what may.

Seamus. You live in Northern Ireland so please dont use fenian terms like "the north". Out of respect I do not refer to west Belfast as a taig slum even though that's what it is. Please enable our non British visitors from Eire and the USA to know what you are talking about.

RVP, I think most people know that when I refer to three areas as the North, Britain and the Free State, that they know I am talking about Northern Ireland, Britain and the Republic. Your sectarian bile is unimpressive and pointless. Most people from the Republic (while the Official name is Éire, it hasn't been called that in decades. I wouldn't bring this up but people like RVP would use the term Irish Prime Minister, instead of Taoiseach, and Soldiers Song, instead of Amhrán na bhFiann. So if they are going to be very Official they should do it right) would reguarlly use the term North.

All I am saying David is that I personally don't see Jim Allister and the TUV even sharing power with the SDLP, never mind Sinn Féin.

Seamus,

I know the TUV and they will share power with constitutional nationalism. As would I.

Cripes, looks like FF is also pulling the Greens right down in the Irish local elections. The Greens have lost ALL their council seats in Dublin city and county, which is their stronghold, and almost all their other seats around the country. Significant losses for Sinn Fein too, apparently.

"Out of respect I do not refer to west Belfast as a taig slum even though that's what it is"

Not from Belfast RVP? I'm sure that the good people of Suffolk estate, Springmartin and almost 50% of The Shankill Rd, [all of which are in West Belfast], would have something to say about that.

FG look to be the winners in the local gov elections Noel

The Sinn Féin vote in the local elections seems to be all over the place. Its up, significantly in some places, like Cork, and Kerry, and early reports of Donegal, yet cripllied in Dublin, despite reports that Mary Lou has held her vote and Sinn Féin increased their vote in the two By-Elections.
