THE PRICE OF REWARDING TERRORISM

You do not defeat terrorism by rewarding terrorists, regardless of how many bleeding heart liberals argue otherwise. Want to know where that flawed approach leads to? Read UNIONISM DECAYED 1997-2007 - It's my first book and it explains what happens when you seeek to appease terrorists and call it peace. It's available right now for ATW readers so make sure you get your copy by emailing the editor! This is the book that dissents from the herd mentality that doing wrong can lead to being right. It doesn't and this book spells out WHY.

ATW SATURDAY NIGHT TRIBUTE

Sorry to read that Ronnie Drew, founder of The Dubliners, has died age 73. I have always liked the Dubliners, and enjoyed Ronnie's solo stuff, so I wanted to mark the event...he will be missed by those who appreciate good music.

I'm terribly sad to hear this. I've loved their music over the course of a lifetime. Ronnie, you'll be missed.

Perfect choice of song for this sad passing, David.

Terrible news. A sad sad day. He has left a great legacy of music and stories. The Edge tells a great story about meeting the Dubliners in a hotel in Holland. Ronnie Drew said to him "It would be a great honour for me to be able to tell my children that you bought me a pint"

I never knew this guy's name, but for me he was The Dubliners.

I first heard their music while in the Navy, in Naples Italy of all places. Flipping through the radio dial, I came upon Seven Drunken Nights. On an Italian radio station!

Yes, but they had another very great one, Luke Kelly, taken from us a long time ago and far too young. See here as he sings along with Ronnie and the boys in earlier days.

Whereas Ronnie had the sad voice of a hundred dark corners, Luke could border on the angelic

The notes here say it was Luke's last performance.

He sang along with the chieftains last year in Belfast, in a televised concert that was to be shown this year, but sadly has not appeared. He looked well then before that I heard him at the fortieth anniversary concert in the abbey. This is a truly sad occassion, and Dublin will be good to the memory of this son, as they were to Ronnie Drew.

Very sad. A charming man with a great sense of humour, as well as being a fine musician. As Peter said, he seemed to personify The Dubliners (Luke Kelly was before my time although I've been impressed by the recordings of him I've heard).

David yet again you demonstrate the almost unfeasibly broad range of your musical taste!

The real Celtic Tiger. A great voice and a great sense of humor. We are consoled with his legacy of recordings. Excellent tribute.

You had to love the aul hallion. He was a great, one of the better ballad singers that this wee isle has produced.

The best story I ever heard about Ronnie was that he tried to play my mother in pool for money.

...

When my mother was 9.

He will be missed.
