Consensus Reached in Britain: Global Warming is a Hoax
Well, will wonders never cease! Results from a recent poll: the majority of voters in Britain think that the “green” movement is, first and foremost, a means to raise taxes!
It looks like the Global Warming advocates will have to find another hobby horse to ride. The last 10 years show a definitive global cooling trend; much of the manipulative hysteria behind the Global Warming panic is rendered moot. Sometimes the globe warms up…and then the globe cools down! Who knew?! :)
From the Independent:
More than seven in 10 voters insist that they would not be willing to pay higher taxes in order to fund projects to combat climate change, according to a new poll.
The survey also reveals that most Britons believe "green" taxes on 4x4s, plastic bags and other consumer goods have been imposed to raise cash rather than change our behaviour, while two-thirds of Britons think the entire green agenda has been hijacked as a ploy to increase taxes.

Totally incoherent post. The heading is not in any way supported by the content.
People in Britain are rightly cynical about green taxes. That does not mean that they think global warming is a hoax, much as uber-denialist Patty would like.
Peter
If people are opposing government efforts to tackle the issue then they must doubt if the issue is serious.
The problem AGW believers have with the taxes introduced so far is that they don't go far enough. So political resistance at this stage means the agenda proposed by environmentalists is a political dead duck.
We will now see if there is more to the whole thing than an attempt to introduce socialism by the back door.
If there is the Green movement will have a radical re-think about their approach. I don't expect them to.
Henry,
"If people are opposing government efforts to tackle the issue then they must doubt if the issue is serious."
Huh? If people oppose the direction the NHS is going in does that mean they don't worry about their health?
Notice also that when Patty is shown a consensus among scientists, well science doesn't work by consensus. Apparently it now works by 'consensus' among the public. If so I am sure I can find a poll of US citizens that she won't like.
In any case a post that claims a 'definitive 10 year cooling trend' (clumsy dishonesty and a blatant lie) is not credible about anything else.
Henry
The heading implies that the science supporting AGW is a hoax. That is baloney.
The question of how (or if) we respond to AGW is a different matter entirely. But denialists like Patty deliberately confuse the two issues.
People don't like taxes. What a shock.
Peter
The heading concerns what the people of Britain appear to believe which is that the issue is a tax-raising scam.
This has nothing to do with the science. It has a lot to do with how people look at their government and it is a very serious problem for anyone who thinks governments can provide solutions to climate change
I think it is fair to say that AGW believers think we need to go much much further than any government has so far in forcing people to change their behaviour.
Portraying it, Frank, as a marginal issue of policy presentation like an NHS debate is entering into a state of denial of the political realities.
The heading implies that the science supporting AGW is a hoax. That is baloney.
no it's a fact it's baloney and it's fried
Henry,
"The heading concerns what the people of Britain appear to believe which is that the issue is a tax-raising scam."
The link presents a more complex picture than that:
Just over a third of respondents (34 per cent) believe that extreme weather is becoming more common but has nothing to do with global warming. One in 10 said that they believed that climate change is totally natural.
The over-55s are most cynical about the effects of global warming with 43 per cent believing that extreme weather and global warming are unconnected.
Three in 10 (29 per cent) of all respondents would oppose any more legislation in support of green policies, while close to a third of citizens (31 per cent) believe that green taxes will have no discernible effect on the environment since people will still take long-haul flights regularly and drive carbon-heavy vehicles.
...which can be read to mean that most people polled believe it is a problem, most would not oppose new legislation, and most believe that green taxes would have an effect. They simply believe that the government is not delivering.
The government claims that certain activities are causing global warming - and that is dangerous. If so, why does the government not simply ban these activities. Flights to/from the UK should be capped and 4x4s should be banned. Car engines above 1.6l should be banned.
If the government can demonstrate beyond reasonable doubt that flights, cars, light bulbs etc. cause global warming and that global warming is a serious threat, then the government should impose these bans.
