glasgow airport attack

Stephen Clarkson told the BBC he saw people panicking and running after a Cherokee jeep crashed into the airport. He saw an Asian man lying on the ground with "flames coming from his body".

"It was just lucky that I was there, I managed to knock the man to the ground with my forearm and the police got on top of him and restrained him."

To borrow a sentiment from the inimitable Rick Blaine: there are certain sections of Glasgow, gentlemen, that I wouldn't advise you to try to attack

And when he was on the ground his whole body was on fire said Stephen.

Now I know the meaning of the phrase 'I wouldn't piss on you if you were on fire'.

Well done stephen for knocking him down, and a pat on the back for not pissing on the b*****d.

BBC News "ticker" line is flashing that 2 (further?) people are being held in Cheshire re this.
That's good. It means Glasgow guy is talking, and so will the Cheshire guys be, soon. Bit of luck, we'll have this cell captured fast, now.

The incompetence of these attacks is quite interesting. It suggests to me that the perpetrators have probably not spent much time at terrorist training camps. If that does turn out to be the case it emphasises the importance of not allowing Al Qaeada & the Taliban to re-establish themselves in Afghanistan.

here is a comment I found

Comment at "This is London:"

This government is still involved in the biggest foreign policy disgrace ever and shows no sign of either admitting the error or apologising for the suffering they've caused. Iraq was based on lies and the conceipt of a few men (Bush, Cheney, Blair) all of whom are deeply religious nutcases who believe that all's well because God says so. 'We' need to understand that we've caused this blowback, which is based on a justified reaction to our actions, and as long as we deny this we'll be bombed in the streets of London, as thousands are in Iraq. Bush and Blair said this was 'war', what the hell did we expect?

I posted that not to continue todays fued but to point out that there are a lot of people on both sides of the pond that just dont seem to understand that yes we are at war

even if we all stopped fighting the crazies on the Islamic side will still continue untill we are all dead or under sharia law Tis war is not about Iraq or the US or Britain.

It is about a political religous sect that believe they can bring back the 12th imam and rule the world after it has been washed in our blood

Apparently Bobby Smith and the Islamist apologists and appeasers prefer to remain willfully ignorant of the number of terrorist attacks that Al Queda and related groups launched against innocent civilians long before the U.S. and our allies, including Britain, invaded Iraq.

Shortly after the 7/7 bombings in London in 2005 another key U.S. ally, Australian Prime Minster John Howard, paid a visit to British Prime Minster Tony Blair. In his remarks afterward, he ticked off a list of attacks against innocent civilians, citing especially the 88 Australians murdered in Bali, which occurred before we invaded Iraq.

Was this before or after the smoking ban came into effect?

LOL Noel.

Best headline I've seen on this:

(geordie accent)
"Day 2 in the big brother house....and Gordon's found a bomb"

I agree Ross

The best joke i heard was off the BBC - when the interviewer asked this scots fella who knocked this guy to the floor if the police 'were treating the incident as suspicious'

Ross,

"The incompetence of these attacks is quite interesting. It suggests to me that the perpetrators have probably not spent much time at terrorist training camps. If that does turn out to be the case it emphasises the importance of not allowing Al Qaeada & the Taliban to re-establish themselves in Afghanistan."

Interesting point but then compare to Iraq, which is probably the R+D centre of the world for IEDs, and where they could probably make an effective IED out of a bottle of diet coke and a packet of mentos, or three random items from a hardware store.

So why do they need to travel anywhere, they just need to receive the latest tips from the global network of terrorists that they are supposed to be part of. According to Monica they all have cellphones so what's the issue.

My old (ahem) mate Rab had 'Made in Easterhouse' tattooed on his forehead. I second the above.

'Interesting point but then compare to Iraq, which is probably the R+D centre of the world for IEDs'

Unfortunately that is true, although as far as I'm aware there aren't thousands of foreigners going to Iraq for training, so the war is enhancing the terrorist capabilities of existing terrorists and local recruits rather than spreading bomb making knowledge amoung huge numbers of people from a wide array of countries.

'they could probably make an effective IED out of a bottle of diet coke and a packet of mentos'

Since I discovered what happens when you put mentos in diet coke, about two months ago, I've been looking to try it out but nowhere seems to sell mentos anymore,

I lived in Glasgow for a while and was back there a few weeks ago (via the airport). The Glasgow Ned has not changed. Glasgow is really not a good place to carry out that kind of attack.
