GLORIA IN EXCELSIS DEO - THE RULE OF LAW IN ZIMBABWE
Zimbabwe's ruthless ruling party decided to send riot police to storm St. Francis Anglican Church in Harare yesterday. Apparently the congregation was not approved by president Mugabe's puppet Bishop, Nolbert Kunonga, who is a staunch ally of the regime. Mr. Kunonga broke with the Anglican Church hierarchy last year and has recently declared Mugabe to be "a prophet of God".
At St. Paul's Church in Harare, the congregation refused to budge and kept singing "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" when a dozen police entered the Church. The police called for backup and an additional 50 riot police showed up and with batons forced out the parishoners.
I imagine how terrifying such an event would be. And I marvel at how threatened the regime feels by people trying to observe a faith not dictated to them by the ruling party. I am thankful to live in a nation where the freedom to worship or not is fundamental and where the rule of law insures that right. I hope that someday the people of Zimbabwe may enjoy the same rights.

That won't be any time soon. I believe the result of the run-off will be a Mugabe "win". You can be sure the bookies won't be taking bets anyway.
Good post Mahons. God Bless America.
Latest is that Mugabe has postponed the run-off "election" to 27 June (2008, I think). He and his thugs need the extra time to "soften up" the opposition even more.
I predict a "win" by 60-40, despite the fact that the reverse result applied in the legislature elections in March. Then he'll suspend the legislature and rule by decree, just like the dear Fuhrer did in 1933.
Peter - he'll only go out in a coffin. I am afraid I agree with you on that.

Daphne, surely you mean God bless Ireland, and Denmark and Iceland and America and Liechtenstein and Peru.
Yes (Peru?) but I think Daphne was just giving a shout out to the homeland and not a list of happy places.
Heck, it's Friday....God Bless the world.
Is Peru a happy place?
Apart from many other reasons, it would be nice if ATW had a real international crowd to have fun with.
Then, when something dreadful happened somewhere, each would shout "God bless Greece", "God bless Argentina", "God bless Japan" etc. as the case may be.
That would be nice Noel.
