HEAVEN ABOVE!
Saturday, November 29, 2008 at 10:28AM Did you read that Roman Catholic priests have been banned from using 'heterosexist' language in their churches in case they offend gay worshippers? They have been told by their bishops not to assume that every churchgoer is a heterosexual and to reflect this 'in language and conversation'. What a load of bull. The Bible is FULL of heterosexist language and all the better for it! However it is not one's sexuality that should most concern the Church, it is a dedication to pursuing Christian values and trying to live good and decent lives. I think this constant obsessing by the Church to be kind to gays less these wall-flowers get all upset is just farcical. There is NOTHING that is easy in Christ's teachings and that means that regardless of what goes in behind closed doors, God sees everything and judgement will be made as explained in the Bible. The Church would do better to focus on THAT.

Well if they were to teach mosaic Law that would be ok. As Mosaic Law was about an eye for an eye (ie justice) and the good man keeping the product of his labour and the evil man getting the product of his labour, so no welfare state. Jesus, however, promoted the idea of turning the other cheek, the effects of this we see in Britain today, with criminals going unpunished and crime increasing. Also he promoted the idea of sharing the products of your labour and working communally. The Pilgrims tried this system in America and nearly starved, as we see in Britain it encourages the idle to be idle. So basically Jesus was a communist, and as we know, communism doesn't work.
I doubt that the Church is compelling them to do any such thing.
a gay worshipper is a contradiction in terms anyway
Terry,
"a gay worshipper is a contradiction in terms anyway"
Actually no it isn't.
A judgmental and wealthy worshipper might be, though.
God sounds like a cross between Paisley and Ratzinger! A heaven full of Mary Whitehouses and Iris Robinsons sounds more like hell!
I think Gods nothing like that, though as Protestants we should all believe we are personally answerable to him for the lives we have led. I thought the Reformation was about doing away with authoritarianism? Besides God has a sense of humour! Look at the politicians he has given Northern Ireland!
