IS THE BBC RACIST?

The BBC is racist! Or so says award-winning writer Jimmy McGovern who has accused it of being "one of the most racist institutions in England" during an interview on BBC Five Live. McGovern said while there were "lots of black faces in the BBC", they were working in the canteen. What rubbish. The BBC goes out of its way to employ ethnic minorities at every level. Given the frequency with which we see various shades of coloured folk presenting our TV programmes, I think McGovern could not be more wrong. There is only one group that the BBC ignores -  white anglo-saxon heterosexual males who love their country. McGovern is a died in the wool unreconstructed Marxist.

I thoughtyou were a white hetrosexual? Have you not made numerous appearances on the BBC? Or are you a white celtic hetrosexual? Ive even heard Andrews dulcet tones on the Beeb! Whatever McGovern is wrong the BBCs has its own "compliance" unit which monitors such matters to ensure ethnics appear.

Alan,

Let me correct link.

Scouseproud,

No, I am not celtic in any way. I am white however, heterosexual and delight in being British. But my presence is tokenism and I am not so foolish as to think otherwise.McGovern is an idiot.

Assailed from right and left for racism. Could it just possibly be that the BBC is not racist but merely tries to avoid appearing 100% white in a society which has about 10% non-white in the population?

I only ask the question.

Many Presbyterians are celts! It will be interesting to see what reaction the BBC give to the Traditional Unionist Party when its formed. Clever and articulate Jim Allister does have a look of Neil Kinnock though! Please not just DUP drop outs , but hopefully the UUP old guard also. Martin Smyth on the 12th talking on the 12th of the "erosion of Democracy and elevation of terrorists in government"

David,

Now that the link works (thank you for that), it appears he said "You do not see them in positions of power." This is an argument that is also true of media corporations in the United States. I only see BBC World once or twice a day, and I see lots of white men (can't tell their sexuality) and lots of white women (ditto) and some Asians. I don't recall seeing a black host. BTW, I'm quite fond of Darshini David who usually does the business report, but BLACK she isn't.

The BBC employs ethnic minorities of all stripes hugely out of proportion to their actual ratio in society. And they are certainly not in the canteen! Only the most loony Leftist could believe otherwise.

That's right DSD. Did'nt Norman Tebbitt make the same point exactly, last year?

McGovern's photo says it all: unshaven, dishevelled, washed out, hideous.
