JUST ANOTHER GANG MURDER..WHO CARES?

How casual murder has become in Northern Ireland.

I read that a 30-year-old man has been murdered in an attack by several people early today in Belfast. Police launched a murder investigation after he was attacked by a number of people shortly before 2.30am at a house in Fallswater Street, west Belfast. It is believed a number of men were involved.

So, if I understand this correctly, in the capital city of Northern Ireland, a group of men arrive in a vehicle, bludgeon a man to death, drive away, and the police are looking into it. Why that sounds like the sort of thing a terrorist gang would do - but of course we don't talk about them anymore, it's just not the done thing.

To think these terrorists are the kind of people that our elected representatives like MP MLA and Finance Minister Peter Robinson are in cahoots with http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/northern_ireland/7230631.stm.

Also sounds like something the Kray twins would have done and I wouldn't have called them terrorists.

We know nothing about this so perhaps it might make sense to hear some more about it before jumping to conclusions.

There is such a thing as crying wolf when it comes to the use of the word terrorist.

More jumping to conclusions without any evidence whatsoever. It seems that the murder was a result of a feud between Travellers.

Mr M,

So, you will support my call for Paisley et al to remove themselves from such company, right?

Paul,

Yes, a travellers feud it seems to be. But what barbarism from these thugs. I believe machetes were used. Time to crack down on travellers?

Does every crime in Northern Ireland have to have a terrorist association to make it a valid crime?
Anyway, good to see the PSNI have have two men in custody already just by "looking into it"

Mr M,

"To think these terrorists are the kind of people that our elected representatives like MP MLA and Finance Minister Peter Robinson are in cahoots with"

Ulster Resistance? Clontibret? Robbo has never shown an aversion to associating with terror when it suits him.

Anyway, the BBC is also reporting the dead man as being a traveller. That seems to back up Paul's comment.

Well Donny,
How much do you want to bet. Seems a bit of humble pie is in order for your good self or are Travellers terrorists too now.

David,
this is exactly what I mean by using the word terrorist all the time without knowing the facts.

This is lynch mob justice you are advocating. Also, you undermine your more valid serious points by jumping on every crime that happens and labelling it a terrorist act without actually knowing the facts.

Depends what you mean David, if you're suggesting that that it's time to crack down on the individuals within the trevelling community who perpetrate these barbaric acts then yes, absolutely.

If you mean, as I suspect you do, persecuting the entire travelling community because of the actions of a few then the answer's no. That kind of thinking,IMO, is akin to advocating the entire Shankill community be held responsible for the psychopathic bloodlust of the Shankill Butchers.

Is this you stupid thread of the week David or are you always this misinformed or maybe your are suffering from a bad case of kneejerkitis.

It is the job of Police to look into it or would you rather they do something else?

Has murder become more frequent there?

The most recent stats I see on the wonderful wikipedia are 2.48 per 100,000 population for 2002. which is a lot more than England and Wales for 2001 or 2003...but a lot lower than the rates during the years of the Troubles...but then all the recent rates are higher than in the 1950s and prior.

At a 5.6 murder rate per hundred thousand for 2002, gun happy America can give no lectures.

It is irrelevent whether this killing is terror group related or not. The animals who did this should if convicted all be locked up until they die, alas that will not happen regardless.
