LET 'EM SHIVER?
Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at 08:51AM I see that it is being reported by Ukraine's gas company claims that Russia has cut off all gas supplies though the country, a move which would worsen a crisis which threatens to leave a number of European countries without heating in the midst of a winter chill.
"Russia has left Europe without gas," he added. All supplies to Romania had already been cut, while Slovakia has declared a state of emergency and Bulgaria says it will run out of gas within days. Some 17 European countries yesterday reported sharp falls or a complete halt in Russian gas shipments. The European Union branded the situation "completely unacceptable" and demanded the flow be restored.
Or what?

Or a pretty gosh darn stern and full on secondary request for compliance !
Like other stories in the British media lately, pertinent facts seem to be curiously absent in the presentation of issues. Watching BBC 'News at 10' last night, I noticed there was no mention of the small fact that the Ukraine have repreatedly defaulted on their payment responsibilities to the tune of some (I finks) 80 billion USD. Is there a comparison with the presentation of other hot topics in that those who seem to be, in light of the actual facts, primarily responsible for unfortunate situations are not brought to proper public scrutiny for reasons of policy and prejudice ?
Here, of course, European public opinion is about as relevant as a fart in the hurricane , in other situations where international public opinion is a key factor in determining the liberties and prospects enjoyed by the various protagonists for pursuing their endeavours, the BBC et al's "distortion of the situation by the wilful suppression of salient facts" is, in my opinion, a contributory factor to the impetus for violent actions, and indeed for the deliberate endangerment of the women and children, by particular cynical parties with ambitions they know to be immoral, who require the tolerance of uninformed opinion, and the intolerance of misinformed public opinion, in order to achieve their vital aim of isolating and destroying those stronger and nobler than they.
No doubt both Russia and Ukraine bear responsibility for this. 20% of gas in western Europe comes from Russia and 80% of it goes through Ukraine.
But whoever is to blame, this annual debacle will simply hasten the Nabucco pipeline which will eventually eliminate Russian gas from the European market completely. The sooner the better.
Peter,
You are beginning to sound like a shareholder!...

I'm in business, and one of my strong beliefs is that if suppliers make it hard for you to do business with them, then you go elsewhere.
Peter,
Your point is absolutely valid although I have to say that having shares in this Nabucco pipeline seems quite a good investment!
Better one than the other why ?
While I agree that a pipe from Theodosiopolis would be an ideal and cheerful solution, our disregard and distrust of our Orthodox friends, which is central to this situation, means she is no longer.

ROFL!
