More Racism from Obama’s Peeps
Last weekend, The Rev. Michael Pfleger, longtime Obama ally and political supporter, stood at the pulpit of Trinity United Church mocking Hilllary Clinton, and making racist remarks.
Here’s a sample: imitating Hillary Clinton losing to Barack Obama, Pfleger sobbed: “’I’m White! I’m entitled! There’s a black man stealing my show.”
Now, please note that Trinity United is Obama’s church and Rev. Michael Pfleger is a longtime Obama supporter and friend. Not only did Obama arrange a $100,000 government earmark grant for a youth center at a Catholic church run by the Rev. Michael Pfleger, but Obama also had Rev. Pfleger on his Campaign Advisory Committee and featured Rev. Michael Pfleger's endorsement on his website. While Rev. Pfleger has just been scrubbed from Obama's website and removed from Obama's advisory committee, Obama's connection with Rev. Pfleger is, in fact, deep and enduring.
I have two questions:
1. When will the Democrats learn that Identity Politics neither unite, nor lead to "social justice?"
2. What is wrong with the Trinity United Church? Are they intentionally sabotaging the candidacy of Barack Obama?

Patty,
" What is wrong with the Trinity United Church? Are they intentionally sabotaging the candidacy of Barack Obama?"
That's a pretty good question. Though I suppose you'd have to consider that they do not care what rightwing people think about it. It was never your vote they are courting. I don't know what the democrats make of this stuff though.
See Frank, a lot of American liberals are religious!
Obama's looking consistently foolish with his choice of churches. For a man supposedly running on a theme of non-identity politics, he sure puts his faith in some mighty controversial pews.

You know my views on all religion. There's way too much of it in public in the US and for an avowedly secular country they have way too much political influence.
Didn't McCain ditch some evangelical religious wacko from his list this week because the guy was on record hating catholics? You can't blame Obama for acting promptly here. I find it intriguing that the wacko is white.
Frank: I think it's playing very poorly among white blue-collar Democrats. The "hate whitey" thing just doesn't sit well with them. It really looks to me like this church is sabotaging Obama -- maybe Obama promised them stuff that he hasn't delivered on? I really don't know.
Peter: McCain rejected an endorsement by 2 wacko preachers. But they were only endorsements - not close friend/allies and not from his church. It's really not equivalent although there are Democrats who try to make it sound equivalent. Also, McCain has been around for a very long time. Every one knows, more or less, who he is, what he stands for. Obama is new and unknown - and the more we get to know him, the more damaging it is.
First a Reverand, then a priest. If he knows a Rabbi he's got one good joke on the way.
Good post and important to note this wackjob is also a lontime associate of Obama.
Patty
McCain eventually rejected Hagee's endorsement. He first defended him, saying his anti-Semitic, anti-Catholic, and anti-gay statements were taken out of context. Hagee says that McCain explicitly sought his endorsement, and he only rejected it a few months later after being criticized for not doing so.
Frank: I just got it - The Good Rev. is basically saying that if Barack doesn't get the nomination, then it's racism!
Man, I'm slow today. Thick as a brick.
They're playing the race card for Barack! They're on his side!
Neal: look, McCain is a well known candidate. If a wackjob priest, or whatever, endorses him it doesn't really change my opinion of McCain. I already know he is a politician who will do almost anything to get elected.
But Obama is an unknown quantity. And he is running on "change" - as in, not just another politician who will do anything to get elected. So, if Obama's close friends and allies are wackjobs it matters. It means that he is either a reasonable person who will associate with wackjobs to get elected - so he's not really "change, " or he is a wackjob himself.
Sounds like you are headed for race riots - less Obama grows a small stack and gets a grip on the race vote aspect. & pigs might fly.
Daphne,
"See Frank, a lot of American liberals are religious!"
I'm well aware of that. A lot of decent people are religious. I guess you're referring to my use of 'Godless liberals' - but I was quoting the title of Coulter's book that time (and Coulter is of course a spokesman for the GOP). Don't mistake my poking fun at her for agreement!
this whole speach is deeper than The Obamanation.
White entitlement is an incremental policy they are trying to push in the public schools now.
What it is, is original sin. You are born owing the minority community, therefore it justifies any thing the minority community does or demands of the white majority.
It excuses there political agenda of government enshrined racism.
We owe their minority because they have inherited the pains of slavery and racism just as we have inherited the benefits of the white majority.
So we must excuse thier behavior, thier failings, thier 80% illegitamacy rate, and thier racism because with our natural white entitlement they can never be called racist or held responsible.
So not only should they have an equal opportunty in life (which they do) we have to give them extra because we owe them.
Whether that means we ride in the back of the bus or go to the back of the line behind them, all the way to reperations.

Well said. I've even heard people like former Senator Bill Bradley use that phrase.
Its not all from the likes of the Racist Rev. Beware.

You mean there's another kind of politician? Any examples from the mainstream? :)

I'm mad at you...
Go read my response to you on the other thread....lol
Sorry Frank - I didn't catch the reference. I have read some of Coulter's work - she's definitely good at getting the base worked up. I admit to enjoying her books that I've checked out at the library - she's so deliciously wicked! But her books are swimming in a shallow pool, like most pundits (right or left) who publish.
Troll - that summed it up perfectly.
I will say one thing the more his church is in the news the beter the chance McCain has

Which thread? Cannot find...
This stuff is killing Obama with "Reagan Democrats". I know people, including members of my own family who voted for Obama in the primaries, but who were horrified by the Rev. Wright speeches, and the fact that that racist bum had been Obama's "spiritual advisor" for twenty years.
Now, this guy. I just saw the video for the first time--this guy is a Catholic priest? Please tell me that this is a comedy skit. ( An intentional comedy skit, that is )
Huge numbers of conservative leaning Democrats and Independents are Catholic. And to see this kind of language coming from the mouth of a "Catholic priest" will only rip the scab from the Wright episode open again.
The Republican attack machine will focus relentlessly on this stuff all summer. And you know? They should.
Cardinal Francis George of the Archdiocese of Chicago issued this statement about Father Michael Pfleger's ridicule of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton in a sermon at the church of Sen. Barack Obama, Trinity United Church of Christ, on Sunday:
"The Catholic Church does not endorse political candidates. Consequently, while a priest must speak to political issues that are also moral, he may not endorse candidates nor engage in partisan campaigning.
"Racial issues are both political and moral and are also highly charged. Words can be differently interpreted, but Fr. Pfleger’s remarks about Senator Clinton are both partisan and amount to a personal attack. I regret that deeply.
"To avoid months of turmoil in the church, Fr. Pfleger has promised me that he will not enter into campaigning, will not publicly mention any candidate by name and will abide by the discipline common to all Catholic priests."
