MUM AND DAD BANNED FROM THE CLASSROOM
What could be more normal that a primary school teacher referring to "Mum and Dad" in the class-room?
PLENTY, it seems.
You see the Government now believes that teachers should not assume that their pupils have a "mum and dad" under guidance aimed at tackling anti-gay bullying in schools. It says primary pupils as young as four should be familiarised with the idea of same-sex couples to help combat homophobic attitudes. Teachers should attempt to avoid assumptions that pupils will have a conventional family background, it urges. It goes on to suggest the word "parents" may be more appropriate than "mum and dad", particularly in letters and emails to the child's home. Teachers should avoid telling boys to "be a man" or accuse them of behaving like a "bunch of women". When discussing marriage with secondary pupils, teachers should also educate pupils about civil partnerships and gay adoption rights.
I'm sorry but this is just sick. This is the Stonewall gay rights group having its own extreme views accepted by Government and now to be propagandised in the primary school class-room. I am fed up with these gay rights supremacists wanting to make their own agenda legitimised, even to kids as young as four! Aren't you?

I have no problem with same sex couples, but it seems a bit unnecessary to add the concept to a four-year old's kindergarden lessons.
There is something to be said in favour of avoiding negative gender stereotypes such as comments about 'behaving like women' an expression I doubt many teachers would use today anyway, but I agree that calls to avoid references to 'Mum and Dad' are just silly.
Sick is the word alright. I see no alternative but homeschooling if I have kids.
As is becoming typical the word 'banned' is in the headline but there is no actual ban. I don't see the issue with using the term parents.
But the part about treating kids as racists is just gay.
Frank: That cost me a tie. Spit out my soda.
You're right Frank, there is no outright ban. But there is Ofsted. Do you think that the inspectors will not be instructed to carefully monitor schools in order to ensure that this "advice" is carried out? And if they are found to be ignoring this "advice", how long do you think they will escape being put under special measures?
Mahons
Soda ? - Since when have you allowed a non-alcoholic beverage to pass your lips :)
Colm,
I'm sure Mahons is a teetotaler when he's at work.
"At the same time, schools should encourage gay role models among staff, parents and governors."
Does this remind anyone else of that South Park episode where Mr Garrison brings 'Slave' to school to teach the children about his gay lifestyle? I pity what the poor school gerbils have in store for them now.
Colm: Alan is right, I avoid drinking alcohol at work (usually the buzz from the night before will carry me throug hthe day).
Mahons
It's OK I'm not the sobriety police, it's just that the thought of you drinking Soda is like seeing Monica approach a gun and putting a flower in the barrel :)
This is absurd.
I wonder how teachers are able to put up with all these social dictates telling them how to behave and speak - it's a new set of rules every other month regarding how they're allowed to interact with the children.
Hmmm... Nice image, Colm.
"But the part about treating kids as racists is just gay".
LOL. Good one.
Ahhhh how times have changed. When I was at school in the 70s, the worst possible insult was to be called 'gay', and being Northern Ireland, the terms 'fenians' and 'orange Bs' weren't far behind.
Now my daughter comes home from primary school talking about 'ladies and men who love each other' and doesn't even know what fenians and prods are.
On the downside, she informed us that a 'girl with a brown face' had joined her class and 'nobody likes her.'
Plus ca change....
>>'ladies and men who love each other' and doesn't even know what fenians and prods are.<<
A perfect example of love's victory over hatred.
Thanks for sharing, Human Animals.
Remind me again how many teachers are leaving the profession annually......
Human Animals,
I assume your children aren't being raised in Northern Ireland.
Where I live in California, the state legislature has actually passed a law banning "mom & dad" and "husband & wife" in textbooks. There's now a lawsuit challenging it working its way through the courts and critics are collecting signatures to get a referendum to repeal the law on the ballot.
Garfield -- actually they are. I'm as surprised as anyone.
