NEVER TRUST POLITICIANS....

I fully agree with Simon Heffer when he warns in his article in The Telegraph that British politicians will be taking some consolation from the otherwise hideous secret donations scandal. Why? Because they will use it to advance the cause of being funded by the tax-payer!

Let me just, for the avoidance of doubt, say one thing to begin with on this subject: that short of the slaying of the first-born or the nationalisation of domestic residential property, I can hardly think of anything more appalling that Parliament could vote for than forcing taxpayers to pay for the self-promotion of politicians. But we have to understand that after this latest scandal - of which we have not, by any means, heard the last yet - the calls will rise up again for taxpayer funding to become the norm, to spare parties from any further involvement with the CID.

There is not a shadow of doubt in my mind that the political class would much prefer to get their sweaty mitts on OUR money so they can finance their own ambitions at our expense which is one more reason why you should never trust a politician.

But of course. Is'nt that what the whole European Union is about?
To date, their accounts still remain officially un-audited, and that's the way they want it.

The reason why the candidates certainly for General elections in yesteryear were of a higher standard, and had usually made a name for themselves in eg business or the law, can be seen in that they themselves had to contribute significantly to party election funds and expenses.
The amount varied depending on how safe the seat was.
In a marginal seat in the 1940s the candidate had to contribute £250 a year and half the election expenses roughly £450. That was a lot of money then! But it did provide people of experience and calibre, not political time servers ,who have never had a proper job!

Bernard, the EU's accounts have been audited but the accountants refuse to sign off because there are so many irregularities.
The political clique is asking to be state-funded because they cannot be trusted not to be corrupted. But then, who will run the state? The same political clique, and then there will be no means of verification. They stink, all of them. That's another reason why I'll vote BNP!
