NOT A GAY DAY...
Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 06:27PM What a farcical waste of valuable police time.
"Officers from the PSNI’s serious crime branch are carrying out interviews as part of an investigation into DUP MP Iris Robinson’s controversial remarks over homosexuality. The First Minister's wife caused a storm when she told the House of Commons, during a debate on the assessment and management of sex offenders, that “there can be no viler act, apart from homosexuality and sodomy, than sexually abusing innocent children”. Her comments were made just days after she told a radio programme that homosexuality was an abomination and that gay people could be “cured”. The Belfast Telegraph has learned that serious crime branch detectives have been carrying out active inquiries into the remarks following a number of complaints about incitement to hatred. It is believed police are investigating if the remarks contravened Article 9 of the Public Order (NI) Order 1987 by using threatening, abusive or insulting words which have the likelihood to stir up hatred and arouse fear."
What sickens me most about this is the way in which the militant gay lobby is using the law to restrict free speech. I do not agree with Robinson but I do agree with her right to express such an opinion. It is outrageous that the Police are now turning into Thought Police and the number one crime is thou shalt not criticise homosexual behaviour. Why is this? Gays, straights, vulcans - we should ALL be open to criticism. The PSNI should be ashamed of itself - have these serious crime officers NOTHING better to be going on with? Maybe we could with a few less of them on the public wage bill?

The serious crime committed by this women is to Unionism!
She makes the late harmless pleasent but ineffective Cecil Walker look like Carson or Craig. As a member of the Robinson clan she doesnt think before she speaks! Since entering sham Stormont circa 2007, she is only remembered for her views on gays. What has she had to say about the former head of the IRA in Londonderry or the Old Bailey bomber! Zilch!
Like her husband ,in my opinion she is a self publicist who puts number 1 first! Funny how Peter the punt was the only one arrested at Clontibrit? He wanted to be an Ulster says no martyr, he thought the power workers would come out, what came out was the DUP cheque book to save him!
In general I would agree with you. No one group deserves special treatment over any other, and I speak as one of those whom the dreadful woman would consider an abomination and worse than a paedophile.
However, had she made those comments about black people, or jewish people, or Muslims, or Sikhs, or Asians, or disabled people, describing them as an abomination, then I suspect that people would - rightly - take exception to her odious remarks.
Does anyone think the fragrant Iris is a closeted Fag hag ?
What annoys me is that the streets of Belfast and beyond are becoming virtual no go areas through the lack of police patrols, yet the PSNI can find time and money to conduct a witch hunt against Iris Robinson. No wonder real criminals are having a field day robbing, mugging and doing only God knows what they like with impunity.
Jaz,
Yes, Robinson is clueless but it is a complete waste of police resource. I reckon most sensible gay people would agree.
I agree, it is a stunning misuse of the police who have enough real crime on their hands to deal with.
Hmm..don`t know about you David but I suspect had a muslim cleric made similar remarks about homosexuals the authorities would have turned a blind eye to it. Their hyprocracy is sickening!
Firstly, the quote of "there can be no viler act, apart from homosexuality and sodomy, than sexually abusing innocent children" can't be under Police investigation as it was made in the House of Commons and is protected under Parliamentary Privilage. The only thing she is being investigated on is because she called Homosexuals an "abomination". In that case I would imagine that the Sandown Free Presbyterian Church should be very concerned at this moment in time.
Seamus,
The Bible also calls the act of homosexuality an abomination. Shall we ban it and arrest all who possess a copy?
David would you advocate everything which is alledgedly contained in the bible?
Calling something an abomination is no big deal. It's a religious term and may safely be ignored by the non-religious. Did not her former party leader once famously refer to line-dancing as an abomination?
Much worse is her reference to sexual abuse of innocent children. Here she is saying that homosexuality, a very common, harmless and completely legal state, is in fact worse than one of the vilest crimes! She is mobilising contemporary hysteria about child molesting against harmless gays, who are most often perfectly decent, responsible and productive members of every community!
I would have no objection to the law forcing her to shut up in this case.

As I am not familiar with where and when she said it, by and large I would agree that the police have better things to do, and that we should all learn to be a bit thicker-skinned about things (such as the current non-story being whipped up the Daily Mail about Chris Moyles).
However, I don't agree with the idea that had a Muslim cleric said the same thing that a blind eye would be turned. I can think of examples where that has happened. And the whole homophobic content of some rap songs is being challenged.
But as a principle I do get rather fed up with the absurd way that everyone seems quick to take offence on somebody else's behalf.
Personally I couldn't give a monkeys what this silly woman says. And I would prefer not to give her the oxygen of publicity. That, after all, is what she craves.
PS As for the bible - well Leviticus also says that wearing cloth of more than one thread is a sin. I think anyone who wears polyester cotton should *certainly* be arrested...
Didn't a picture surface of Punt and Iris' son in a clinch with another male?
Now wouldn't that be a funny one.

And Noel, when she said that she was in the House of Commons and thus she is intitled to say. In the House of Commons you can say that all Homosexuals are pedophiles, Hitler was God's gift to the world and Labour supporters each people's brains. It is all part of Parliamentary Privilege. Her comments about child abuse, while mentioned in both this thread and in the Tele's article are not up for discussion and not a policing matter under any circumstance. It is simply the calling of homosexuality an abomination.
"The Bible also calls the act of homosexuality an abomination. Shall we ban it and arrest all who possess a copy?"
No, but then I don't agree with the Peelers investigating Iris Robinson on this. In my opinion, it is not a crime to have an opinion on anything. The Police should take interest in people's actions, not what they say and write. That ranges from Iris Robinson and the Free Ps saying that Homosexuality is an abomination all the way to Juan Ignacio de Juana Chaos writing a letter in support of ETA.
Also, in terms of the Bible, I do take more from the New Testament more than the Old Testament, as there a number of things that you yourself David criticise Islam over. Leviticus goes further than calling Homosexuality an abomination. It declares "If a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman, both of them have done what is detestable. They must be put to death; their blood will be on their own heads."
I also raise the question as to whether the a woman who's job is to scrutinise the Health Minister should believe that Homosexuality is a Mental Illness.
