ON THE RUN, JUSTICE ON TRIAL...

I see that Jane Andrews, the former aide to Sarah, Duchess of York who was jailed for life for murdering her boyfriend, is on the run after absconding from East Sutton Park open prison in Maidstone, Kent.
Get this.
She was jailed for life in 2001 for murdering Tom Cressman, 39, in Fulham, west London, by stabbing him and battering him with a cricket bat after he refused to marry her.
Last year, just seven years after her conviction for these vicious murder of Mr Gressman, she was sent to an Open Prison from which she has now escaped. What sort of JUSTICE have we when convicted killers are treated so gently? This woman took a life and now she is on the run having spent eight years in jail as her "life sentence." Our system of justice is profoundly flawed and yet I wonder what, if any, lessons will be taken from this total failure? How many more killers are in Open Prisons? What indeed is the point of an Open Prison?

The most worrying thing, especiallly in these supposedly enlightened times, is that it's obvious that she was given the luxury of open prison because of her privileged background. Is this policy I wonder?
The nature of her crime was premeditated and very violent so, as is very occasionally the case, I am in agreement with you DV!
This shows yet again the utter dishonesty of so-called "life sentences". In most cases the perp will serve ten years at most.
Albert Speer was sentenced to 20 years at Nuremburg. He served exactly 20 years. That is honest sentencing.
I agree with serving every day of the sentence, that's for good behaviour. Don't behave and the sentence gets extended. In my more unenlightened liberal days I sympathised with Cool Hand Luke, these days it's a big hand for George Kennedy!
"it's obvious that she was given the luxury of open prison because of her privileged background".
DaithiO,
Do I detect a note of class envy there?!
The old "them and us" mentality?
I don't think it was anything to do with it.
The joke is that she was serving a "life sentence".
Only victims and their families serve life sentences now....
I always said that when they abolished the death penalty, they would 'pass the buck' onto the Police.
And what do we have now?
The death penalty being carried out on our streets by..
armed policemen.
Nuff said.
One lesson to be learned is never date a girl who has her own sports equipment.
Hard to believe Cressman would have perhaps had a few reservations about marrying her in the first place, isnt it?
Mahons, fair point. Personally I would never trust a player of womens cricket! Have they any idea where she is or are they stumped? So she remains on the run(s).
stabbing him and battering him with a cricket bat after he refused to marry her.
What a catch she would have been.
Yes, she clearly didn't know her boundaries! I hope everyone is over it now.
