OVER THERE - CRY GOD FOR HARRY, ENGLAND, AND SAINT GEORGE
Three Cheers from this side of the Atlantic Ocean for young Prince Harry who has been secretly serving in Afghanistan for the last ten weeks. I would hope that one does not have to agree with the war in Afghanistan to admire the participation of a member of the British Royal Family in the actual conflict. As an alleged Plastic Paddy I generally feel that royalty can go the way of the butter churn and Model T Ford, but you've got to admire the true grit of a young man who isn't hiding in a life of privilege. Jimmy McCain, John McCain's youngest son served in Iraq with the United States Marines, but even he doesn't present the enemy with the propoganda target that a member of the Royal Family does. Well done Harry.
On a side note, I saw a photograph of him with some British Army Gurka regiment troops. History is quite a long road.

Mahons,
Even those who are opposed to the Iraq war generally look more favorably on the Afghanistan effort. As they should.

I wonder if that would be true of McCain was President. I'm not sure, really. Funny how McCain understands this predicament more than most seeing as he was treated differently as a captive because he was the son of the leading US Admiral at the time.
Mahons,
I agree (and about the butter churn), so Well done, Harry!
Mahons,
I'll have you know that the produce from my butter churn is loaded into my Model T once a week and transported to the dockside.
As for Harry, well, he wanted to get into the thick of it, and there is nowhere thicker than Afghanistan. The clown who blabbed to, I believe, a German website could have kept his or her trap shut, but once Drudge picked it up, there was nothing but a swift 'Fare-thee-well' from the young Royal to his men and friends, because the target sights would have painted him and his lads as bright as moonlight!
A great pity for all concerned!
Mike: great heirlooms for the grandson.
The guy deserves credit for his determination to fight with his unit and for going to such measures to bring it to fruition.
just seen a report on news Harry "does not like England very much "well that makes him a complete airhead like his Mother ,
Welcome tribute from you, Mahons.
The great Plantagenets, House of Lancaster and York lines, all led their armies into battle; royal sons, nephews, uncles, the lot.
It was only when the germanic House of Tudor came along in 1485 did the tradition fade away (it was more fun staying at home sacking churches & monasteries).
We can be mildly grateful to the House of Windsor for their nod in the direction of antiquity.
I was waiting for a post on this since yesterday!
I think Harry is just wonderful! He's a great credit to his family and country.
well I'm glad he did it for ten weeks at least, but listening to the BBC all day describe the web site that broke the story as 'foreign'.....was a bit unusual. Of course it's 'foreign' but it seemed odd....It's usually America or US rather than foreign.
Daphne: We have to rally our British friends to their achievements & good deeds. They aren't as brash and self-promoting as we are.
Jeeze. A boy goes off to war and a nation rejoices. Welcome to the 12th century.
(I reversed the 1 and 2. And why not? Everyone seems to be doing it.)
Dawkins, you missed the point. I (and I think the others) were not rejoicing about the war rather that a son of privilege didn't take the easy route and avoid it.
