POLICE STATION BOMBED - PEACE IS ALL AROUND ME.
Friday, July 13, 2007 at 09:22AM I see that some within the Irish republican community decided to celebrate the 12th July...by bombing a Police Station. The PSNI say they believe dissident republicans planted a pipe bomb which exploded at the back of Strabane police station. The device went off at about 2115 BST on Thursday. No-one was injured in the blast but a number of residents had to leave their homes. They have since been allowed to return.
I noted that the Police spokesperson spewed forth the usual garbage about this act having been committed by "a small group of people." I'm old enough to recall the same comments being made about IRA bombings of police stations. Those responsible for that carnage now see their associates sitting in Government, rewarded for their violence. Why would these "dissident" brothers-in-illegal-arms feel that their ongoing enthusiasm for violence will be any less recognised?

David,
Would it be fair to say the bombing was carried out by the anti-Agreement community of which you are a member? No?
Then neither is it fair to say it was carried out by the republican community of which I am a member. The vast majority of republicans have voted for the peaceful road and abhor those who refuse to accept that.
Didn't they vote for a party that offered an expedient political opportunity whilst maintaining that violence was a legitimate means to acheive an undemocratic objective ?
There is of course a firm separation between those who oppose power sharing with Sinn Fein because it legitimises terrorists with civic responsobility, and those who oppose the peace process because it de-legitimises terrorists wth the endorsement of civic society.
This timing of this incident underlines the fact that in classical Irish Republican thinking, its not so much Orange and Green as Green consuming Orange.
The republican/nationalist community has its unreptant fools, as does the loyalist/unionist community. That is what seems to be the case here.
