I thought Alison's article was very good, and laid out the fundamentals of the problem we face.
During WW2 the US Government interned all Japanese Americans, because they were worried they might work from within to destroy America.
And in Britain, in both wars any person with a "foreign" sounding name or European ancestry was regarded with suspicion.
I think it was all about "fith columnists."
(I had a relative who got thrown out of a northern pub because his friends came from the 'wrong' Ireland!)

Were all the Romanians encouraged to leave Belfast recently bad people? I don't know, but their community as a whole certainly made a pretty negative impression on the folks there.

Mahons keeps making the point that we mustn't tar everybody with the same brush. He provides examples of Muslim soldiers proudly serving in the US and elsewhere.
He is right.
There are always men of good will to be found everywhere in every culture.
That still doesn't mean people like me who are concerned about Islam's impact on the West are wrong.
Mahons, I don't know how it is in your world, but I just don't see long lines of people eager to emigrate to even the wealthiest of Muslim nations..

It is more than justified to point out the hypocrisy of those here who deny the loyalty of Muslims fighting for western countries - even after they were killed proving it - while they themselves refuse to fight the wars they claim they believe in and that Muslims don't.

Correct.

Just like we were supposed to be worried about anti Muslim riots after 9/11 or anti Korean violence after Virginia Tech. Lots of media people here and abroad simply don't know this country very well.

A story from NY-

An Afghan ran a fast-food truck catering to construction workers. A couple of days after 9/11, the biggest bruiser of the construction crew came up to the Afghan and gave him a card with his mobile phone number. His only words were " If anyone f***s with you, you give me a call ". That was the entire conversation. True story.

Believe it or not it was in Dublin, in a small hotel. My cronies and I had brought back some deliciously pungent fish and chips from Leo Burdocks to munch on in a common space, and two middle aged women were enviously commenting on them in Irish. The only English word I heard 'em say was " chips "!
