A fellow officer says he fought his deployment to Iraq and argued with soldiers who supported U.S. wars. He required counseling as a medical student because of problems with patients.
There are many unknowns about Nidal Malik Hasan, the man authorities say is responsible for the worst mass killing on a U.S. military base. Most of all, his motive.
For six years before reporting for duty at Fort Hood, Texas, in July, the 39-year-old Army major worked at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center pursuing his career in psychiatry, as an intern, a resident and, last year, a fellow in disaster and preventive psychiatry. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001."

I thought Alison's article was very good, and laid out the fundamentals of the problem we face.
During WW2 the US Government interned all Japanese Americans, because they were worried they might work from within to destroy America.
And in Britain, in both wars any person with a "foreign" sounding name or European ancestry was regarded with suspicion.
I think it was all about "fith columnists."
(I had a relative who got thrown out of a northern pub because his friends came from the 'wrong' Ireland!)

Were all the Romanians encouraged to leave Belfast recently bad people? I don't know, but their community as a whole certainly made a pretty negative impression on the folks there.

Mahons keeps making the point that we mustn't tar everybody with the same brush. He provides examples of Muslim soldiers proudly serving in the US and elsewhere.
He is right.
There are always men of good will to be found everywhere in every culture.
That still doesn't mean people like me who are concerned about Islam's impact on the West are wrong.
Mahons, I don't know how it is in your world, but I just don't see long lines of people eager to emigrate to even the wealthiest of Muslim nations..
Plenty headed this way though....
Ask yourself why!

Colm comments on Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, A Disloyal American?

I knew there had to be another advantage to the net apart from porn ;)

aileen comments on Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan, A Disloyal American?

Charles

"BTW, I passed on the well wishes of ATW from David and others to one serviceman wounded in the attack. Mahons' point was well made. There have been too many comments here trying to drag the whole Muslim community into the range of the - very justified - anger at these latest killings. It was, for example, said here not only that Muslims are not loyal to their countries, but that because of their religion they cannot even be loyal to the armies they serve in and even that they should all be kicked out.

It is more than justified to point out the hypocrisy of those here who deny the loyalty of Muslims fighting for western countries - even after they were killed proving it - while they themselves refuse to fight the wars they claim they believe in and that Muslims don't.

The Phantom comments on ALLAHU AKBAR!

Charles

Correct.

Just like we were supposed to be worried about anti Muslim riots after 9/11 or anti Korean violence after Virginia Tech.
