SMILING MURDERERS...
I was reading about three youths who smirked in court yesterday as they were jailed "for life" for the murder of a father of three. Mark Witherall, 47, was kicked and stamped to death after he found the gang burgling his house. A judge said they had turned on their victim "like a pack of hyenas."
Curtis Delima age 19,, 21-year- old Mark Elliott and Gerry Cusden, 16 - all from Whitstable, Kent - had been found guilty of murdering Mr Witherall last month following a nine-week trial. They had embarked on a day-long session of drinking and taking drugs before going to a party where they stole the keys to Mr Witherall's home from his girlfriend's handbag. High on a cocktail of vodka, alcopops and cannabis, they killed their defenceless victim on January 27 last year after he caught them trying to burgle his home in Whitstable. As he lay dying outside, the three returned to the house to steal his belongings.
What concerns me is the laxity of the sentences issued to these three killers. Delima was jailed for a minimum of 20 years, Elliott 23 years and Cusden 16 years. So when Delima is 39, he will be free. I think that is way too light a sentence. In my view I would much prefer to see these three killers given LIFE meaning life in prison, execution would be even better still. The cruel murder they carried out and their total LACK of remorse for it suggests that they have utter contempt for the laws of this nation. Do these sentences not merely underline that?

Even those so called minimum sentences that we are informed of in these murder cases are not absolutes. they can be and are reviewed in time and if the prisoners are co-operative can be reduced by early parole release. So the devastated families of the victim cannot even rely on these sentences as a crumb of justice.
Of course the sentences are inadequate as usual.
The victim's family should sue the perps for financial damages in the civil courts, just like the Omagh bomb families are doing. If they win, the scumbags will be financially crippled for the rest of their scumbag lives.
