SUCCESS ENDS IN FAILURE
Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 12:17PM I was intrigued to see just how industrious those Nigerian nationals that live amongst us can be...
"A Nigerian national has pleaded guilty to organising seven “sham” marriages used to help Chinese and Nigerian men and women gain illegal entry to European Union member states. Alexander Success (30), whose address was given as Waterfoot Park in Derry, will be sentenced at Derry Crown Court sitting in Coleraine tomorrow. The defendant’s co-accused, Akim Shittu, is currently serving three and a half years in prison with a recommendation of deportation on his release on similar charges.
At yesterday’s hearing of the court, Judge Seamus Treacy was told police found false passports and marriage documents when they searched Success’s home in May 2006. The court heard that Chinese and Nigerian nationals went through sham marriages with seven people from the north west. After the marriages, their Irish spouses claimed status as migrant workers by claiming they were crossing from the Republic into Northern Ireland as workers.
It's an absolute scam the way these Nigerians get into the UK, they seem to cause a lot of criminal problems as this case vividly demonstrates and I fail to understand why the UK (and the Republic of Ireland) tolerates them.
Hat-tip to the ATW reader for the story!

What a fraud some of these guys are.
After the marriages, their Irish spouses claimed status as migrant workers
by claiming they were crossing from the Republic into Northern Ireland as
workers.
As the spouses of migrant workers, the Chinese and Nigerian spouses were
able to apply to the British Home Office for documents of residence, allowing
them to travel between EU member states.
A prosecution lawyer told the court Success’s personal computer diary
also contained incriminating material.
This included entries confirming a payment of £4,000 in two weeks from the
“Chinese boys” for organising marriages. There was also evidence of an approach
from a Chinese national offering £2,000 up front and a further £3,000 later for
help in gaining entry to an EU member state.
The lawyer said in one case a girl pulled out of a sham marriage 12
days before the marriage and was replaced with just three days remaining.
The marriages took place at Letterkenny, Stranorlar, Coleraine and Derry
between 2004 and 2006.On occasions false documents were used to speed up the
marriage process in the Republic, where those applying to marry must prove they
have lived in the jurisdiction for a certain period of time.
It's all corrupt, isn't it? This is where the authorities North and South should be working hand in glove to sort these criminals out and deport the lot of them.
'This is where the authorities North and South should be working hand in glove to sort these criminals out and deport the lot of them'
I agree with you there David.
This recalls Colin Powell's 1995 statement that "scams are part of the national culture" of Nigeria.
An unpleasant truth.
And a major reason why a country that should be rich (with its oil, etc ) will always be poor.
