TAKE A HIKE, GRAMPS...
Monday, October 27, 2008 at 09:31AM I see that Doctors should prescribe walks to pensioners to make themselves feel better, government health advisors have said!
"Doctors should instruct those over 65 to join walking groups and take part in other exercise like swimming and dance classes, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice) has recommended."
Why?
Why should government advisers be "advising" Doctors - don't the GP's have brains of their own? Is this not insulting to the medical profession to imply that they need such advice in the first place. Also, quite a few pensioners don't have the ability to walk much beyond the length of themselves so the advice is redundant for them. Sure, I know that there will be those quite capable of walking which is indeed a good form of exercise but then again they are probably not the same group of pensioners heading off to see the doctor on a regular basis.
Whenever politicians interfere with medicine, I feel sick.
