Texas Politics
It looks like Hillary’s Texas firewall is crumbling:
The survey found Obama leading 48.2 percent to 41.7 percent over Clinton statewide. The poll, conducted Tuesday through Thursday for the Houston Chronicle, Reuters and C-SPAN by Zogby International, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
Hillary leads in heavily Hispanic South Texas, while Obama leads everywhere else - including 60% in both Houston and Dallas.
Meanwhile, it appears that the prospects of any major “you're not conservative enough message vote” to John McCain by conservatives might be fading.
McCain led with 53.4 percent support to Huckabee’s 26.8 percent and Paul’s 10.7 percent in a survey that had a margin of error of plus or minus 4.1 percentage points. McCain led among all groups, including self-identified conservatives.
It looks like the general election campaign will be starting Wednesday - Obama, the most liberal United States Senator, vs. McCain, who is, well, far less liberal. Plus, for the first time since 1960, a sitting Senator will finally have won the White House. I am absolutely delighted that it won't be Senator Clinton.

Looks like it's McCain then. Nader running again helps him, but I think he'll beat Obama anyway, whatever the polls are saying. And I think he would have beaten Hillary too.
Good stuff Daphne. Did you see Obama is pulling in Republicans in Texas. Those are some numbers to watch.
Daphne/Mahons,
If Hilary loses Texas, will that be the end of the road for her?
We can only hope David!
David: I think it is already over for her even if she wins Texas (which she will not). Congressman John Lewis of Georgia a veteran civil rights hero has already switched endorsements (wham bam no thank you mam) from Hillary to Obama. Her top campaign aids are fighting openly in the press WITH EACH OTHER. She just never anticipated this type of a fight and she's stuck like an old prizefighter hoping to stay on her feet until the end.
I think she would have governed better than Obama if elected (she would have the sense to follow more of a mianstream agenda than he would).
Mahons - my parents crossed over to vote for Obama. He's a nice sharp to tool that Texas conservatives are using with absolute glee to finally kill off the Clintons.
I just don't think I can bring myself to do it..........
Daphne,
I insist that you vote for that favorite son of Texas, Ron Paul!
I would poke my eyes out first Alan. :-)
"I think she would have governed better than Obama if elected "
But isn't the lesson of this campaign that regardless of her actual political positions she can't actually manage things very well? Something which was also shown during her 1990s health reform drive.Imagine the infighting of her aides if it were transposed to the federal government.
Ross: Fair points. However, running and governing are two different animals.
I think Hillary would govern like a slow moving beast.
Like a crocodile?
Ca ching David!
I have returned! A long story, but the gist is that I've been working so hard for the last 3 months that I earned a week in hospital.
Anywho, O'Bama is a phenom. In Dallas, he drew 17,000 to a rally, while Hillary is drawing a few hundred in a parking lot. Bill himself said last week she must win Texas to be a viable candidate.
My wife is somewhat amused at the site of Texans lining up to vote for either a woman or a black for Pres. But the truth is that Texans of the Democrat persuasion are so tickled to be so courted by the National Candidates that they are falling over themselves to get to the polls.
He will be the next President, in my somewhat feverish opinion.
Charles,
GREAT to hear from you - wishing you all the best and hope to hear from you more often!!!
