THAT PALIN RESIGNATION.....

Thanks to Mahons for breaking the news here on ATW re Sarah Palin's shock decision to step down as Governor of Alaska.
We'll get more news on this from Palin shortly but I hope the reason for this is as a catalyst for 2012. Those who paint her as dumb are the same sort of people who portrayed Reagan as a simpleton. If Palin can go on and emulate even half of his success, that would be great. Of course there may be other personal issues involved here, but I doubt it.
I know it goes against accepted political wisdom - even in GOP circles - but I think Palin would make a fantastic candidate in 2012 and I hope this is but the beginning, not the end, for her rise and rise.

Palin is hugely ambitious, but it may be that this is the end. I sure hope so.
If not, it could be a highly calculated move to limit the damage and still be fit to make a comeback run for 2012.
Pinky: Maybe Palin couldn't stomach the disgusting photoshop mockeries of her son, Trig created by the virulent Left. And the "jokes" about her daughter being raped etc. etc.

Patty, I didn't see those, but what revolting behaviour if true. I think her wee son Trig is so beautiful, but she and her opponents need to leave him out of politics.
I think Sarah should go get some counselling for her and her obviously needy family; then live happily ever after.

Criminal activity on her part? I seriously doubt it. She's been under a microscope and if something was breaking that way we'd have a more traditional news source than Pinky's sister.

I am of fine character- and I believe that helping to raise my down syndrome sibling added to my fine character.So my condemnation of the attacks on Trig are not only honest- they are heartfelt from experience.
You are upset and dismayed that your strange obsession with Sarah Palin is becoming more and more inexplicable to yourself, but obvious to some of the rest of us, :-)
But I am glad to see you continue down the path of character assassination attempts, and that you failed to learn the lessons of the past and why you find yourself in a political wilderness strangely fantasising about some bimbo in Alaska.

Palin has about as much chance of being the president of the United States as I have of playing forward for Manchester United next season. I hope that she is smart enough to realize this. She can be an important voice in the GOP, but the worst possible outcome for the Republicans would be to have her at the top of the 2012 ticket. We could easily lose 40 states.
She's dynamite to large sections of the base, but fairly toxic outside of it. Palinites, be careful what you wish for.

The rumors of corruption are likely Olbermannian / Internet bullshit.
Some of these rumors have their foundation in the fact that Alaska has weird " ethics " rules. It appears that any schmuck in Alaska can make an ethics violation charge against a public official, and that nearly all of these have to be formally investigated, even if there is no foundation for them, or no probable cause of any kind.
Guess what? Palin's enemies have made repeated charges, which have had to be formally investigated, and which have forced the Palins to pay significant legal fees. The Palins are not wealthy, and the kooks / lefties know this, which is why the charges kept coming.
Palin may not be ready for prime time, but she also has many completely despicable enemies. I hope that she never comes near a national ticket again, but otherwise I wish her well.
Pinky - Unless your sister turns out to be Palin's soul mate and co-conspirator in a Ponzi scheme I have to say it seems to be wishful thinking on your part, and more wishful than thinking. And you haven't claimed anything, just made a vague reference to illegality. Certainly you are aware of the various silly things some far righties write about Obama. Why play to that level?

This ridiculous woman is not one willingly to embrace obscurity. Only two explanations make sense: she has a job with Fox or she's about to be indicted. Not that, if Col. North is anything to go by, the two are mutually exclusive.

The speed with which Obama's tertiary education records were sequestered plus the on-going lack of clarification of his birth records make any questions on these matters more serious than "silly".

I can find nothing dishonourable in what Sarah Palin stands for nor can I understand why she should receive such hate filled comments. I can see no reason why she should be considered ridiculous.
Pinky - I wouldn't retract a single word if Palin turns out to be a mass murderer or committed the far more evil crime of forcing me to see Ice Capades. You've offered nothing but a vague smear. If Palin or someone close to her turns out to have some real issue, it would be in spite of what you have written. Liberals who engage in the half-truths and partisan speculation are no better than the conservatives who do so. Don't make me call you Pinky from Aberdeen.

I absolutely agree, such spiteful, and unwarranted venom can only be generated by an overwhelming sense of inferiorty and jealousy.
Sadly a characteristic of so many of the so-called 'liberal left'....but that tends to happen when they judge everyone by their own, usually low standards and motives. To do otherwise would mean they recognise that others may well be , - better people than themselves, and that is - of course, a concept totally against everything they have been taught.

Ernest, you could probably add the word "fascist" to "liberal left" and you wouldn't be too far off the mark.
Also, Allan has a point about Obama's birth records. Why WERE they not disclosed ? If he has nothing to hide, well then he should just put his iniquistor's minds at rest. Simple !
