THE HIGHEST STANDARDS?
When Tony Blair came to power in his first week as Prime Minister he said:
"You are not here to enjoy the trappings of power but to do a job and to uphold the highest standards in public life."
Today it is revealed that that Tony Blair claimed £116 to pay for his TV licence. Gordon Brown claimed £2,000 for cleaning along with £1,941 for “TV subscriptions/licence and internal upkeep”. Ex-deputy Prime Minister John Prescott £4,000 for food in the space in just a year. (The latter figure is a REAL surprise, I would have expected it would have been ten times this given Prescott's voracious appetite)
These people were earning very large salaries but yet they had to plunge their nose in the trough, care of the UK taxpayer.
Highest standards? You have to be joking!
