THE PRICE OF REWARDING TERRORISM

You do not defeat terrorism by rewarding terrorists, regardless of how many bleeding heart liberals argue otherwise. Want to know where that flawed approach leads to? Read UNIONISM DECAYED 1997-2007 - It's my first book and it explains what happens when you seeek to appease terrorists and call it peace. It's available right now for ATW readers so make sure you get your copy by emailing the editor! This is the book that dissents from the herd mentality that doing wrong can lead to being right. It doesn't and this book spells out WHY.

Just watched your vlog - I like the new video format you use . As you know,I may not agree with all your views but I admire your tenacity and honesty in standing by them. More power to your elbow you old fossil :)

What programme did you use, Colm? When I click the link a message tells me I need a newer version of Adobe Flash but when I try to download it, it tells me I have to close my browser first!

Cheers Colm,

As you may have realised, I use a body double for these vlogs. In real life, I am much younger and with a mane of hair!

I don't know. All I know is that it worked for me. I am no technobod at all. A friend loaded up my laptop for me. I couldn't even tell you what software or programmes I have. I just click the mouse and hope things work.

David

I watched the news too. did you see the rumour service on it? There are now 7/8 pages of condolonces on it. Most say something along the lines of RIP stand easy for the last time. But one or two are there saying things like how many more, becoming all too common, and at least one says bring our boys home. It isn't just the media who want out. I know what you say about a just war, but lots of things are said by men who have never fought. At this point in time I would support a withdrawal.

Other than that, sorry about the dark ages remark.

Great vlog, nice to see you. I concur with a lot of stuff you say, particularly about Islam.

Hannah,

I value your comments and we can agree to differ on the odd point! Sleep well.

Bernard,

No guppies - but Siamese Fighters, Neon Tetras, Pear Gouramis. They are MY pets!

Siamese Fighters eh. A white persian too, perhaps?

You always struck me as a sort of 'Dr.No'. :)

Thank you David, that was most excellent and very eloquent.
You're passion is contagious.

Yargh! Don't bite me! I may be a liberal but that's in the original sense i.e. "of or pertaining to liberty".

Agree about terrorists in government.

Disagree about Iraq. I think terrorism is a different beast to a conventional war with armed forces. It's inefficient to travel halfway around the world to fight a war that may very well only enflame the problem (we win the war in Iraq, Iran hates us, win the warin Iran, Syria hates us etc etc) compared to simply making sure that terrorism doesn't happen here in the UK.

Also disagree about everyone who opposes our armed forces deserving to die. POWs should not be executed, for instance. If our armed forced were herding [insert ethnic/political group name here] into camps, it would be they who deserved to die, if anyone.

CL

Your comments are virtually identical to my views on the topics David raised. I too disagreed with his assertion that anyone who opposes our armed forces wherever they are deserve to die, or that Iraq and Afghanistan are both just wars which we need to do whatever it takes to win. Islamic terrorism and how to deal with it is very different form the obvious mass conventional warfare we needed to fight to defeat the Nazis. The 'daisy cutters' mass bombings and armed invasions school of military action which David advocates is wasteful counterproductive and wrong. Iraq and Afghanistan have not become peaceful transformed democracies due to Westen military invasions, they have become long slow burning fragmented battlefields with our soldiers simply being there as convenient targets . There has to be a better way to fight the 'war on terror'.

The Safari browser on my Mac crashes whenever I load ATW, and I think your vlog might be the cause, as it's never done this before.

For a minute I thought that it might be a compatibility issue, what with your old buddy Al Gore being on the board of Apple and all that :-)

CL

I did. That's how I managed to post the comment. Safari, however, is my default browser.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 02:11PM | Unregistered Commentercoaldust

Someone just showed me this video and I really think you should be prosecuted under the race relations act for 'inciting hatred'. They should be shot in their heads should they? The people you hate should be shot in their heads? So you want people murdered. People who happen to be a different race and religion from you. Nazi rascism isn't it...Thankfully you people are not in power.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 03:08PM | Unregistered CommenterJill

Les Travers: Try Firefox as your browser. Works for me on Mac.

David: Well spoken. Stupid question: Are those real fish or a screen in the background?

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 03:14PM | Unregistered CommenterPatty

Jill,

Did you perhaps come tumbling down the hill after Jack? Listen, I make it abudantly clear that in the war against Islamic fascism - gasp - remember 9/11, 7/7 etc ?? - our military have a perfect right to kill those who would kill them and us? Geddit? Now if you find that a little harsh. just think what WW2 was like! Now, off with youand your drivel.

Patty,

Real fish - my pride and joy on a wall mounted tank!

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 03:19PM | Unregistered CommenterDavid Vance

david, iraq is a failure and its a hawks failure. same goes for afghanistan.

no offence, but you just sound like a blatent propagandist. which is especially realised in your almost complete disconnect from reality on this issue.

the "failures" of these wars cannot be blamed on the media. its purely down to the ignorant superior attitude that you perfectly reflect in your vlog.

be careful what you wish for david.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 03:32PM | Unregistered Commenterdaytripper

Since I can be certain that you get things entirely wrong I feel vindicated.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 03:34PM | Unregistered CommenterDavid Vance

examples please

care to elaborate on Iraq successes? though it might just be easier to explain to everyone why you dont really cover iraq, afghanistan or the GWoT in any real detail anymore?

Its just the same desparate line everytime.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 03:57PM | Unregistered Commenterdaytripper

Drivel David? Because I do not agree with your bigotry and rascism? Because I say you should be proscecuted for inciting hatred which is against the law anyway. I suppose you'd like to burn the books as well...

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 04:03PM | Unregistered CommenterJill

I assume that's a yes to you falling down the hill. I'm unaware that supporting our military is against the law. And last time I saw books being burned, it was Muslims in Pakistan doing it.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 04:13PM | Unregistered CommenterDavid Vance

I come at this in a slightly different way to David. I would support Iraqis who take up arms against their imperialist invaders.

US/Britain have no business occupying Iraq, soldiers know the dangers when they decide to go out there, so my sympathy for them is limited to say the least. Same goes for British soldiers in any part of Ireland.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 04:30PM | Unregistered CommenterJG

JG - Well, I am not a fan of the Iraq invasion but I might point out that the majority of Iraqi deaths are being caused by the factions taking arms up against each other. And those factions are pretty unpleasant folks.

An actual imperialistic invasion (which I would not have supported) would probably have been better for Iraq. The chaos of insufficient invasion has allowed the situation to deteriorate and the hatred of rivals to flare up against each other.

As for Ireland, American and British troops continue to stand on guard for Western Europe which has allowed you to post your comments in English (as opposed to Russian or German).

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 04:54PM | Unregistered Commentermahons

Yes that is the case at present. I made no mention of this.

The low number of troops was down to ineptitude. It does not mean the invasion wasn't imperialist in nature, it most certainly was.

Mahons,
You're trotting out the same old tosh. British troops have brought misery to Ireland over many hundreds of years. There'll be no plaudits handed out for that treatment.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 04:59PM | Unregistered CommenterJG

JG - You wrote that you would support Iraqis who take up arms (of course neglecting to indicate who you support in this regard).

If the invasion was imperialistic, I'd be paying two cents for a gallon of gas and wintering at my sand plantation on the Euphrates.

My so called "tosh" has the distinction of being accurate. Ireland is protected and has been for quite a period of time by the will of the US and UK. Do you think neutrality would have mattered to the Nazis if England fell, or to the Soviets if NATO didn't exist. It is a benefit provided free of charge.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 08:31PM | Unregistered Commentermahons

DT: Well as one of the imperialists surely I get to profit.

you will, by default. without oil your dollar would cease to exist as a valued global currency. you should look at it from a higher perspective than just mere direct gain (of which there is still plenty).

Of course maybe ive got it wrong, and you could forward me the memo showing how Iraq has been given a new lease of life by its liberators.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 09:17PM | Unregistered Commenterdaytripper

DT: You may have missed the part above where I said I wasn't a fan of the invasion. I think it has proven to be a disaster, certainly from the point of view of the lack of security. I just don't think it was the imperialistic venture you may think it is.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 09:26PM | Unregistered Commentermahons

Mahons,

I'm just depressed that all that blood for oil hasn't brought the price down. Ah well, that's economics for you; more supply = higher prices, right?

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 09:30PM | Unregistered CommenterDavid Vance

They Iraqis could be having a "new lease of life" if the terrorist would stop blowing the infrastructure up and killing the citizens.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 09:43PM | Unregistered CommenterDaphne

Daphne: Correct.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 09:43PM | Unregistered Commentermahons

The military action in Afghanistan to depose the Taliban was a necessary reaction to 9/11, Iraq was not. In a few months time UK troops are going to leave Basra, and not as a secure succesful democratic entity but as a city that will almost certainly be overrun by the Al Madhi army and other islamic extremist groups. The death of each British soldier in the run up to this event is an utter waste of their lives.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 09:46PM | Unregistered Commentercolm

Martin Mc Guiness? What about the Unionists? Ian Paisley comes to mind. He was no different than the imams who incite violence form their mosques. If you'd included ALL terrorists you'd have had my respect. Unionists and Republicans were/are BOTH terrorist groups.

Sorry but you left me cold and I'm a card carrying anti-Islamofascist to the inth degree.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 09:50PM | Unregistered Commenterdaisy

Daisy Daisy, give me your answer do,

The IRA is a bunch of murdering gangsters. Fact.
Unionists are politicians, and whilst Paisley is imperfect in many ways, he is not a terrorist.

I have condemned ALL terrorists who operate in Northern Ireland, and if you took the time to read my posts on the UDA earlier today you would see that. I damn them ALL. But the UDA are not in Government, the IRA is.

You may be a card carrying anti-Islamofascist BUT you appear unaware of my stance.

You leave me cold.

Lol! Since race wasn't even mentioned in the vlog I can't imagine how he would be prosecuted under race hate laws! Or do you consider "people who would kill our soldiers" to be an ethnic group of itself? Or do you assume that only one specific race would kill our soldiers? That would make you the racist I suppose...

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 10:12PM | Registered CommenterThe Cynical Libertarian

Daisy - I don't buy that someone is a terrorist simply because of their views. Thus a Republican or a Unionist is certainly not by virtue of their beliefs a terrorist. A terrorist is defined by their actions. If they participated in the violence, then they are a terrorist, if not, then they are not.

Friday, August 10, 2007 at 10:32PM | Unregistered Commentermahons

Jill was just a tad over the top. LOL.
Daisy doesn't seem too happy either.
Maybe they're cycling together and feeling a little grouchy?
