THE LITERAL STONE AGE
ATW readers may recall my outrage when James Baker and his cronies suggested that Iran could be a force for stability in the region. My view is that would only be possible in the same sense that Nazi Germany was a force for stability. Comes the news today that eight women and one man convicted of adultery are set to be stoned to death in Iran, according to activists and lawyers. Shadi Sadr, a lawyer and women's rights activist, said the nine were convicted of adultery in separate cases in different Iranian cities. "Their verdicts are approved, and they may be executed at any time," she said, adding that trial protocol was not applied properly in the cases. Six of the nine were convicted based solely on judges' decisions with no witnesses or the presence of their lawyers during their confessions, she said.
These stone age barbarians in Iran should NOT be pandered to in any regard. It is pathetic to see the West wrap itself up in endless knots as it tries to find reason where none exists. Iran is a theocratic malignancy and if we do not deal with it, then it will eventually deal with us. Given just how intolerant the Mullahs are to every form of modern liberalism, I would have thought we could all unite - right and left - and agree that Iran must be comprehensively dealt with but no, most political "leaders" prefer to delude themselves and imagine that dialogue will solve the problem. Like these eight men and one woman, that pretence will not survive for long.

Barbarians indeed, but no worse than our great ally Saudi Arabia where you can be decapitated in a public square by an expert swordsman.
so Pete that makes it less of a disgrace because why?
Oh that's right if we weren't friends with the Saudies the Iranians wouldn't stone those women I get it...
I said "no worse" not less.
Iran is a barbaric theocracy. So is Saudi Arabia.
I'll agree with that I'll also state that weighing all things in the balance the Suadi's are our enemy. Thats why I'm for drilling oil inside the US in 3 years time we can be pumping as much oil as we get from the Saudi's and we could cut off our business with them. The left in this country refuse to do it.
But the way you bring them up it comes across as if your saying since our governments are freindly with one barbarian regime we can't critisize another.
David,
Violence only begets violence. Why not just institute a comprehensive trade ban?
'But the way you bring them up it comes across as if your saying since our governments are freindly with one barbarian regime we can't critisize another.'
Of course you can but those you are criticizing will merely see you as a hypocrite, and rightly so. Either you have priciples or you don't. Putting up the pretence you do is worse than having nne at all.
The Saudis, like the Iranians are our enemy. I would absolutely consider things like a trade ban--or a big tax on oil from enemy countries.
And would pay any price to wean ourselves from all Middle East/Venezuelan oil--including rapid expansion of offshore drilling, which is the no brainer of all time.
We would gain greater independence and we would ultimately serve to starve the bad guys
