THE PRICE OF REWARDING TERRORISM

You do not defeat terrorism by rewarding terrorists, regardless of how many bleeding heart liberals argue otherwise. Want to know where that flawed approach leads to? Read UNIONISM DECAYED 1997-2007 - It's my first book and it explains what happens when you seeek to appease terrorists and call it peace. It's available right now for ATW readers so make sure you get your copy by emailing the editor! This is the book that dissents from the herd mentality that doing wrong can lead to being right. It doesn't and this book spells out WHY.

TITANIC CAPTAIN FAVOURS FAST FORWARD STRATEGY

I read that Gordon Brown believes that Labour has the necessary team to go ahead and win the next general election. Great stuff. I understand that he also believes that Elvis isn't dead and, that the Loch Ness Monster both exists and votes Labour. Full steam ahead Captain Gordon and never worry about the icebergs!

It's quite possible.

David you seem obsessed with Nessie. This is the second mention in as many days.

Are the conservatives lined up to win? What is the strength of each party at the moment?

David I thought you would be more aware than most that Elvis is in fact alive. Indeed - he works down our chippy.

On a marginally more serious note, although NuLabour looks DOOMED - DOOMED I TELL YOU! encumbent governments have come back from dire situations in the past. If there is an economic recovery between now and election time we could well see that four puritan buffoon back in Downing Street.

sorry that should read "dour puritan buffoon".

Mahons.
Opinion polls show the Convervatives would win (or at least are coming top in a popularity contest - the distribution of votes is critical given our electoral system).
In fact it puts them ahead even if Labour replace their leader.

Intersting Andy, thanks. Is it voter fatigue from Labour being in power?

Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 02:47PM | Unregistered Commentermahons

That is one reason I believe. I do also think that spending too long in power produces a sense of arrogance in the party concerned. You can see that in the various stories on ATW about the rise of petty regulations etc. Essentially elements of new labour think they can do what they want.

However a big thing is Gordon Browns pathetic personal showing. He was scared off the idea of an early election and ducked it in a way which made him seem quite politcally "cowardly". He was also happy to take credit for the UK's comparitvely strong economic performance over the late 90s/ early 200s but is now blaming the Chancellor / the International economy for the relative downturn.

Having said that its too early to completely write off Labours chances IMHO.

Andy,

That's fair comment. You should never say never in politics but Brown is SO bad - and they have been in power SO long - that I really do think it incredibly unlikely they can win. Just wait for the result of the next Scottish by-election - do you think they can win? I don't. Captain Brown looks like a disaster...mind you First Mate Milipede isn't inspirational. That said, I don't like Cameron!!!

Mahons -

Many factors are in play here. Undoubtedly the British people are fed up with a Labour Party which has been in office for 11 years.

Undoubtedly Brown is a rubbish Prime Minister, but he's no worse than Blair was or would have been had he not resigned 14 months ago. In fact many of the policy decisions which are now haunting Brown were taken when Blair was PM.

The Tories are no more electable than they have been for since 1990 when Major became Prime Minister, but Cameron has shown himself to be a true liberal stakhanovite and so the Tories are supported by the MSM. No conservative Conservative Party would be allowed to take power, but this is a centre left Conservative Party which accepts all the Left Wing nostrums of the welfare state, high tax/high spend, environmentalism and rule by the EU. Therefore, they are allowed back into polite London society.

The Party is no different in any way from Labour, but Cameron gets the respectful treatment and Brown is humiliated daily, and it is genuinely humiliating. So public perceptions have been shaped, the Tories have been flying high in the polls for six months, Labour's popularity is on the floor and the next government will be Tory in name and Left Wing, anti-British in actuality.

Mahons,

The opinion polls show the Tories with a commanding lead over Labour. I was always amazed at the hatred that English people had for Blair (whom I admire) and even more so for poor old Gordon (a decent sod but with a charisma bypass).

A lot of it seems to be fueled by the right-wing press, which constantly laments the breakdown of British society at the hands of the dastardly "liberals". Any breakdown of British society that has taken place (and it is greatly exaggerated), should be blamed on the breakdown of the family and traditional community ties. This began a long time before 1997 and the latter was greatly accelerated by Thatcher's policies.

Anywho, John Major's Government won against all the odds and polls in 1992 so it ain't a sure thing.

Thanks guys, so are you anticipating a Tory government with NuLabour policies?

It's not Brown's charisma that is the issue: it's his competence. The man is simply incompetent.
