TWO CAPTAINS...
Only a few days ago, former UK Deputy PM John Prescott compared Gordon Brown to the Captain of the ill-fated Titanic. Amazingly Prezza did not see the irony! Today Gordon Brown has revealed that one of his boyhood heroes was explorer Captain Scott, who led his Polar team to disaster and ended up dying alone. Brown is the gift that just keeps on giving.

Captain Scott was a hero. And he meticulously planned the expedition to the South Pole in 1912. What defeated those brave men was the onset of the polar winter much earlier than had ever been known:
"Another fairly recent book, Susan Solomon's The Coldest March, provides new information about the weather encountered by the polar party in February and March 1912, and makes the case that they were killed: "not primarily by human error but by this unfortunate and unpredictable turn of meteorological events"
But the choice perhaps reveals something of Gordon Brown's current mindset.
Peter,
You are right of course. But his judgement was not exactly perfect.
Judgement - what judgement?
He was just lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time.
If he had been as smart as some would suggest, he would have known that all bubbles eventually burst, and given that he was always going to fill Blair's shoes, a smart fella would have made darned sure that nothing nasty, by way of credit crunches etc. would turn up 'unexpectedly' to spoil his party.
The very least he could have done was to put something by for that rainy day, but no, he had to go on his dogmatic voyage to prove just how wonderful welfarism is, and what a wonderful fellow he was. He made the fatal error of believing his own publicity...
A dour, thrifty Scot? - you must be joking, more like the Fool on the Hill!...
p.s. - Or perhaps The Fool at the Till!....
Dying alone that is going to be so true with regards Brown.
Yup, I told you it would be Prescott who would be the first to leap to the defence of our dear leader Captain
SnotScott. I knew it.
