Powell: GOP 'polarization' backfired in election
(CNN) — The Republican party must stop "shouting at the world" and start listening to minority groups if it is to win elections in the 21st century, former Secretary of State Colin Powell said Thursday. (in other words become Democrats)
In an interview with CNN's Fareed Zakaria for Sunday's "GPS" program, President Bush's former secretary of state said his party's attempt "to use polarization for political advantage" backfired last month. (we didn't use polarization, we didn't use anything McCain ran the biggest non-campaign in political history)
"I think the party has to take a hard look at itself," Powell said in the interview, which was taped Wednesday. "There is nothing wrong with being conservative. There is nothing wrong with having socially conservative views — I don't object to that. But if the party wants to have a future in this country, it has to face some realities. In another 20 years, the majority in this country will be the minority." (yeah if we follow the example being laid before us by both parties we will all be dependant on the government for the majority of our life sustenance. Medical Care, Housing even job security if our Union bankrupts the company, sounds like nirvana)
Powell, who crossed party lines and endorsed President-elect Barack Obama just weeks before the election, said the GOP must see what is in the "hearts and minds" of African-American, Hispanic and Asian voters "and not just try to influence them by… the principles and dogma." (no give them free money, housing and citizenship instead. All Powell did was finally prove what side of the aisle he sits.)
"I think the party has to stop shouting at the world and at the country,"Powell said. "I think that the party has to take a hard look at itself, and I've talked to a number of leaders in recent weeks and they understand that." Powell, who says he still considers himself a Republican,(well most of the people in the party never have) said his party should also stop listening to conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh. (That's right those that speak in support of such out of date things like the Constitution, the Law, and the beliefs of our founding fathers, should be cast aside for the progressive failed socialist beliefs on the left)
"Can we continue to listen to Rush Limbaugh?" Powell asked. "Is this really the kind of party that we want to be when these kinds of spokespersons seem to appeal to our lesser instincts rather than our better instincts?" (Yes such better instincts like telling your stooge Armitage to leek Valerie Plame's name to Novak so you could undermine the war, for 3 years while Fitzgerald chased ghosts at the White House that didn't exist. You could have made a statement in the press at anytime and ended it, but you didn't. Such a Leader of Honour that you are)
Zakaria's full interview with Powell will air Sunday at 1 p.m. ET on CNN.

>>we didn't use polarization, we didn't use anything McCain ran the biggest non-campaign in political history)<<
Which is probably why you insisted he was going to win the election right to the end.
LOL Noel.
You couldn't make it up! :)))
Moron...not maroon.
Patty, that was yesterday. The word is now maroon. Haven't you heard?
Noel: Seriously? I guess that makes me a "maroon," eh?
Patty - Well you did write the words "John McCain will win" about a week before polling day!
I think that makes me a macaroon, Petr. (which is nonesensical, btw)
Unlike foresight, hindsight is always 20-20. (which is not nonsensical, btw)
Patty - you and Troll are the only blind hindsighters I know.
And you Mahons, are a maroon.
should read: maroon. :)
All the more reason it must grate to have me be right so often when you are wrong so often.

Mahons you are a maroon and Petr if you truely want to know my opinion of McCain you should search the archives of this blog and my own. here is my opinion of the man and take note of the date.
Troll - If a maroon is someone who predicted the election correctly, than I am a maroon. If a maroon is someone who voted for the guy who won, then I am a maroon. If a maroon is someone who recognizes an armchair warrior calling an Americna hero a traitor is the depth of depravity, then I am a maroon.
So, a maroon is one who seeks the approval and adulation of others above all else, and exhibits no strong principles or convictions?
Powell calls himself a Republican and yet he endorsed Obama, the most liberal Democrat candidate to ever come down the pike. Can anyone tell me what Powell stands for? What are his convictions?
Patty. Powell is a fool and stands for nothing, least of all common sense. He supported an illegal war that he now admits he knew at the time was based on lies. What an honourable admission - unfortunately a bit too late for the hundreds of thousands of people killed by that war.
Powell is not a maroon; a maroon is one who stands for reason, democracy and believes words generally have an accessible meaning, i.e. everyone to the terrestrial side of Troll.
