White Jihadis

The Scotmans reports a new Jihadist threat from white Britons who have converted to Islam while in the prison system. I know racial profiling for suspected terrorists is off-limits, do you think a little religious profiling would now be in order?

"HUNDREDS of British non-Muslims have been recruited by al-Qaeda to wage war against the West, senior security sources warned last night.
As many as 1,500 white Britons are believed to have converted to Islam for the purpose of funding, planning and carrying out surprise terror attacks inside the UK, according to one MI5 source.
Lord Carlile, the Government's independent reviewer of anti-terrorism legislation, said many of the converts had been targeted by radical Muslims while serving prison terms.
Security experts say the growing secret army of white terrorists poses a particularly serious threat as they are far less likely to be detected than members of the Asian community.
Since the 7/7 and 21/7 London bombings, police and intelligence services have had considerable success in identifying, disrupting and stopping extremist plots. As a result, groups such as al-Qaeda, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Harkat-ul-Mujahideen have been forced to change tack. Converting white non-Muslims has been one response."

Well, it's one big feared hyped gang, so i can see the appeal for convicts.
DT, So you think it's insignificant that extremists are recruiting white convicts to conduct terrorist acts in your country? Would it be better that you didn't know about it?
I would think that you might be somewhat pleased that your intelligence services have caught this and have disrupted the Pakistani jihadis so much that they're turning to white folks to carry out their murderous attacks.
Interesting that this demographic prefers Islam to Cristianity .
I wonder what is the attraction ? Perhaps it's dowm to better pastors.
Another indication that racial profiling and excluding whites from security searches at airports would give some a very very false sence of security and would scare the hell out of me.

Daphne, it's not so much that it's insignificant as that it's not credible that it's happening to any significant extent.

frankly i dont care. there is much more political capital in making you and i distrust everyone as opposed to just people of middle east persuasion.

Colm, that they have to fall back on such crazy tales as this is a good sign. It means there must really be absolutely nothing happening on the Jihad front at all.
White muslim terrorists!? There are those Germans, then that Belgian woman who blew herself up to show how much she loved allah (the pagan arab moon-god), and then some incidents of suicide bombings in Iraq where a whitey is reported as the bomber.
Come the day, I'll have their lily-white arses exiled to a muslim hell-hole (are such countries anything other?) and see how they like their new 'religion'.

Daphne, there is of course a danger from Islamic Jihadists, but it is a very minor one, IMO.
If people want to talk about this risk in a rational way, no problem.
But most people (certainly not including you here) use such risks only to stoke up anti-Muslim hatred and panic. They probably fear being killed in an attack as little as I do but never tire of hyping it up.
(I think that Marks&Spenser story today really showed up this trait clearly. People jumped on what to any sober mind was a very dubious story. Yet they swallowed it with all the need and the urgency of a junkie consuming his fix of the day.
No sane person could take it, or them, seriously.

Leslie Ash's compensation. Is it right ?
I will have to explain this to you Daphne. Leslie Ash is a TV actress in the K who caught the MRSA bug in a national health hospital here and has been awarded £5 million. Thousands of people have caught the same terrible infection but have not been compensated. Was her payout justified ?
Daphne - this was a fine post. It's topical and it was well presented. It was also about profiling which is interesting. The trouble is Al Q is so appealing because it has all the right gang elements so convicts are a natural draw. Plus it has kudos (which we give it)
No. Her payout isn't justified in the world of socialized medicine. In a rational world, the courts would have spanked the NHS hard, demanded that they clean up their act and put them under court ordered inspections until the problem was solved. But that's my special ruling on your socialized medical care.
Over here, yes she would deserve the judgement. She personally paid for good care, she should receive it. In your system, her neighbors pay for what the Hospital did.

Why would traditional white British criminals - however strongly they may be attracted to violent gang pack culture - find appealing about religiously militant Jihadists. I can understand them being cajoled by all sorts of criminal groups for various 'sexy' reasons , Russian drug barons, or International Vice gangs, or even White supremacists organisations, but suicidal Islamic terrorists ?. It doesn't make sense. One or two odd nutjobs maybe, but hundreds and hundreds ?

You make a good point. The hospital authorities or management wil not pay out a penny or suffer at all for their incompetence. Ultimately it is the general taxpayers who will foot this bill. I feel sorry for Leslie Ash, she looks as if she suffered quite badly as a result , but huge numbers of people who caught the infection do not have the ability to take on the NHS as she did , and recieve nothing like the compensation that she has now (at least at the moment) been awarded.

How about something on the differences in political culture both sides of the Atlantic, e.g. the difference between that in France and the US (or Britain if you like), in the light of Sarkozy's latest marriage. Why does this happen practically without a murmur in continental Europe yet would be unthinkable in the US?
I think topics that mix politics, different political systems attitudes and human issues are very relevant and interesting.
It would also be interesting if each side looked at his/her own with critical eyes. Generally I think it's only the Brits that have that self-criticism here (this is often seen as a weakness, but is actually a strength and shows political maturity, IMO).
