WHO IS LYING?

The DUP sold their entry into Government with IRA/Sinn Fein on the basis that they had secured a change to the legislation that had previously allowed Ministers in the Executive to do whatever they wanted, regardless of whether the Assembly as a whole supported it. In effect, each Minister had been only answerable to himself, a private fiefdom.  But the DUP negotiators changed that, or so they would have us believe. So, along comes IRA/Sinn Fein Minister Conor Murphy (He who cannot say the words "Northern Ireland" or "Londnderrry") and he insists  "The minister now will still have the same autonomy as under the Good Friday Agreement.”  His Party fully agrees with him. So, who has got it wrong? IRA/Sinn Fein or the DUP? More to the point, who is lying through their teeth regarding the precise nature of the mutant Executive we now have in power over us, and why?

His Party fully agrees with him.

Well I suppose they would, wouldn't they.

I reckon it will all be decided in the first contested decision. SF want the government in NI to work, so I reckon they would back down anyway. They can afford to be seen to antagonise their partners in government.

Kloot,

SF do want Government in NI to work, since the more successful it would be, presumably the more stable and successful the Province would become - not exactly a provo objective. They seek to subvert, to de-stabilise, to antagonise, to provoke.

Mutants in power - yeah, we're talking the X-Men at Stormont! Paisley as Professor X, McGuinness as The Beast....

the irony is that after their meltdown in the republic last week, Sinn Fein might start to prefer maintaining partition. At least in Ulster they are guaranteed a place in government and a few cushy Westminster seats. No one wants anything to do with them in the South it would appear (at least that seems to be the opinion over on Slugger O’Toole). There doesn’t seem to be much room for leftist parties in the Republic so they may aswell become socialist unionists (lots of room for lefties here in Britain)!

>>"He who cannot say the words "Northern Ireland" or "Londnderrry"<<

I know many Ulstermen who cannot say the words "situation" (sit-ye-ation), "police" (pleece) and "school" (skewel), to give a few examples.

They remain my friends for all that.

I can say "northern Ireland" but I say "northern" with a small "n".

I can't bring myself to say the L-word, although I do enjoy the show of the same name on Channel 6 - very nice!
