9/11 - THE PRICE OF TERROR

So what can I say that hasn't been said?

There have been millions of words written about the terrible events that happened in America six years ago today. There have been numerous TV programmes, movies,  you name it - it's been covered. The collapse of those iconic buildings, the Pentagon on fire - the visual imagery is overpowering but we must focus on the thousands of families who found themselves bereaved that day- publicly, suddenly. And it's the cost of terror in human lives that I wanted to talk about. So I did a little VLOG this morning and you can have a listen if you want.

My message to those Americans who come to this blog is that ATW stands by you on this solemn day.

We remember.

Very well said, David. None of us will forget the images of people choosing to jump from the Towers rather than die in flames. I remember them and all of those who died that day. Also their families who must still struggle to deal with the horror and loss, victims too. Like them and many 1000s in N. Ireland and the UK, I know only too well how hard that struggle is

Well said David.

It's hateful to think that the bearded scumbag and his immediate cronies who planned and launched 9/11 are mostly still at large six years later.

I was very touched by your account of the Troubles David...an era which ended when I was little. As you know I`m still in my late teens. If I had run Northern Ireland during those bad times I would have authorised the security forces to declare open season upon all murdering IRA and UVF filth. I`ve heard about atrocities such as La Mon, Enniskillen and Greysteel and have concluded that the ONLY correct response by the authorities would have been a combination of relentless SAS ambushes and the ruthless application of the death penalty for all those convicted in court of murder. If this had happened then the Troubles would have ended much sooner.

I can be right wing in thought and mind too but I do want conservative minded people like yourself to take things like environmental issues more seriously too. For my generation this whole climate change thing is a huge issue to us and as an older person I hope that you can understand and respect our fears about this. I want to eventually marry and raise kids in a healthy world...didn`t you also when you were only 19?>

Michael,

I think we can all find areas to unite around. Today we remember what happened when terror visited the USA, and death came screaming out of blue autumnal sky.

Greetings to our friends across the sea in Europe and elsewhere. We have a rainy morning here in New York City. As the events of six years ago move gradually move from news to history we in the U.S. appreciate the kind thoughts. As I write this a bell from London is to be rung downtown at St. Paul's Church. The chimes providing a moment to reflect on memory of the dead, and most importantly, a ringing notice for the enemies of freedom that we are still here.

David,

I think you did say what hasn't been said, no one ever thinks of personal loss except those who have either lived through it or witnessed it up close and personal.

Some attrocities do stick in peoples memory, thats the kingsmill masacre where the Sunday school teacher was murdered wasn't it? But I do hope we don't fall into whataboutery in this thread, because it would take away from the message being sent to America and take away focus on an awful crime against humanity. It's like you said, it's families who pay.

Michael, I agree with you on the green issues, and yes people married and wanted the best world for their children, I want it now for my grandchildren. I fully support anything, and do my best for a better environment.

Typhoo,

It was Kingsmill to which I referred but as you and I know there were so many gross acts of terrorism hurting so many people of all and no faith that just like 9/11, it's the terrible sense of personal loss that prevails. The empty seat at the dinner table, no more birthday cards, the silence. Human life is sacred and I thought it would be best to think of all those who are hurting today, some wounds never heal.

They died a horrifying death. We will never forget.

Thank you David.

Presbyterian Nationalist: To every thing there is a season, and this particular post is a thoughtful tribute from the host of the site to 9/11 that caused even the participants in the event you mention to take note. I'd suggest you make your point in another forum under another post (plenty of opportunity).

Poor families, it must be so hard for them today.

Germaine to David's tribute is an article by the eponomous Melanie Phillips (just returned from holiday) on Islamic appeasement in Britain.

It's a long diatribe against priminister Brown and why he is even worse than Blair, but at no point does it OCCUR to her that Labour are after the growing Asian block vote.
One can only conclude that she is just not Cynical enough as a modern political observer!

Anyway, here is her article:

Bernard,

I disagree with you. Ilike phillips' dairies and books and think she has the situation summed up. But I get your point she does leave out about the vote issue, but an article cannot be all encompassing. I thought it was a good read, and I'm glad she's back, I enjoy what she writes.

My household's thoughts are with all Americans today.

For some reason this is the song I most associate with 9-11, although it isn't about that day at all. In a way, tenderness is the greatest strength, and IMO it's the great heart in the American people, more than their muscle, that will help them face down these enemies.
